Hello, I have the shyest Pearl Gourami on the planet. Only see this fish when he comes out to eat but then hides if he sees me. The last few glimpses I have had I noticed a very white eye (cataract?) but other one is ok. Also noticed fins appear ragged so started treating with Furan 2 and medicated wondershell. Other fish appear normal. How quickly should the eye improve? Or will it ever be normal? Last dose was today. Since I can,t look at him for very long...hard to say if it's just cloudy or a white eyecap? Thank you to anyone who can shed light on what is going on.

I think you're giving a mildly effective treatment, so I can say how well it will work. Usually a combination treatment with Furan 2 is best. There's information in this article that goes over best treatments. www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2009/01/streptococcus-eye-infections.htmlThe fact you have a medicated wonder shell should help too being a wide spread antibacterial treatment. Very hard to answer your question. You should progress in 7-10 days. If not, then consider a different more effective treatment.

Thank you Both for very enlightening (and interesting)information. I cannot get in depth information like this elsewhere. The other eye is also white now and if necessary repeat meds with the new combo of Kanomycin/Furan 2. Much easier! Noticed that the corner of the tank where he hides had Very dirty gravel when I vacuumed there. Don,t know if there is a correlation. Thanks again

The fact that the other eye is now white tells me that this is likely a systemic infection of your fish. This may require fish baths too. www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2009/07/fish-baths.htmlCarl

May I ask, how long ago did you acquire this fish? If you can capture for bath, which I agree is needed, try and get a good look at the eyes- if you can without spooking, see if you can find the location (lense or inside the eye) and is there any swelling of the eyes or sockets) How long from one eye cloudy, to both eyes cloudy?

Hello I have had this gourami at least 3 years. I would definitely do baths if not for the fact that this is the most nervous fish I have ever owned. I think trying to net would kill him. One of the eyes does look like it is protruding a bit on the brief periods he ventures out for AAP ,s food. His favorite. One of the front feelers is a bit bent now. I should probably do the combo meds, spectrum, as things don,t appear to be improving. I can,t even look at betas at the store and have written to pet smart about this. 🤐

I hate to bother anyone but I do have a followup question re: gourami. Looks like the right eye, which I thought had improved, is white again. Should I do a followup treatment with Spectrogram? Its been about a week since I used it and this would be the third antibiotic tank treatment. He (or she) is eating. Thank you.

Were baths done? I'd think about switching it up to Erythromycin. Also the EyeFungex. As stated in the article I gave. A medicated food would be helpful. Watch for other infections along with the eye infection. Could be just one symptom of a infection.
