I have a 16 hour drive ahead of me ! I've never transported fish but this Monday I head to Florida to grab my tanks and my fish. I heard to not feed them a few days before the transfer and a few comments about a large ice cooler and bag them up and put them in the ice cooler to keep temp with some stress coat. But I'm not 100% sure that's what to do since I've never transported fish that long before.
Is it possible to get a couple bubblers and keep them in the tanks with some water ? Just need the best solution soon because I do not want to lose all of my fish would be devastating!
Will be transporting: 1 moore goldfish 4 dojo loaches About a dozen or more tetras And 1 pleco

I have been watching some YouTube videos and I really enjoy the 5 gallon bucket idea with the bubblers and some media filter I won't feed them 3 to at least 4 days in advance and I plan on driving straight through. I think that may actually be my best bet. I've never moved them before so I hope they all make it back to Texas. Wish me luck

This is my BigSexxy, what the whole fuss is about ! We will be leaving Florida the 6th. We are fasting 4 days prior to reduce waste. We are doing daily 25% water changes to clear out any ammonia nitrite or nitrates and trying to bring the ph up to a 7.0 because my mother has let it drop since I left. Also if anyone has any knowledge about cars and a.c. plugs in them let me know. I can actually plug in my 2 filters during the drive just not sure if it would drain my car battery !?!?

I have used Inverters for years (& still do), as long as your car is running and your alternator is working, the car battery should not be drained. Carl

It's not actually a piece as much as it's just built into the car ? And yes my car runs great! Lol if not I guess I'll find out the hard way or maybe call the dealership ?

That built in one will work!
I've put a lot of fish in buckets. I just make sure there's some wiggle room. If you're taking a long time, I would give them more swimming room.

It's 13 hour drive but realisticly 16 if you include gas food bathroom breaks. I'll have battery bubblers and 2 filters running in the buckets to try and alleviate the travel with lids to keep it dark and keep the water from splashing...does all of what I'm saying sound okay ? I'll take any advice I know fish loss may happen but I'd like to not have any of them die. 4 dojo loaches 1 giant goldfish And over a dozen tetras && 1 pleco My logic tells me to keep all the tetras together put all my bottom feeders together and have my goldie by himself because...he can be cannibalistic. Or maybe that's my ocd kicking in o.0 One bucket won't have a filter unfortunately 😔

What you're saying sound good. You don't need filters for the buckets, just bubblers.

Okay so I'll be Okay with out the filters should I take the sponge out and put it over one of the bubblers and toss the biological bag in the buckets? I seen some do that on YouTube?

My grandma is giving me this tank. But I've never seen the filter setup before ? Where can I go to find more information on something like this ?

This is an undergravel filter, these used to be very common, but fell out popularity, partly for good reasons, but also for bad reasons as they can work quite well with proper maintenance and a reasonable bio load. Our Filtration article from our extensive aquarium/fish care library has an excellent section about these filters: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Filtration.html#ugf~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As per your traveling, as long as your car is not running too long during breaks in driving, it should not drain your batter too much sonce most air pumps use less than 5 watts. For shorter trips a bubble/air stone is all that is needed. Longer trips of more than a day, I suggest some sort of seeded bio filter be brought. Although your fasting of the fish in prep is an excellent idea Carl

very cool! Love how you set them up! Good to have a calendar... I have one too Thankyou I'm so excited to have all my babies with me ! Unfortunately I couldn't fit two 25 gallons in my car but I got majority of my aquariums and stuff. My big goldfish && his loachyfriend look so happy, as do all the fish as well. Unfortunately the tanks are all new so they will cycle up and down && yes my calender is my life saver and a good routine too but I'm also keeping a journal of all the tanks ph.kh.gh nitrite nitrate ammonia and tempurature so make sure nothing gets crazy and to keep up with water changes. What kind of fish do you have 😊you should deffinately share some pics!
