So I have decided to try my hand at breeding cichlids. I dont want to go with normal filtration. Instead I am making my own double sponge filter. The only thing is that I am adding an elbow close to the base for the airline to connect to. This piece is something that is giving me trouble in finding it and what it is called. Does anyone know what it is called?

Hey welcome! I think your thinking of an elbow like these: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/PreFilter.html#replacementSo, are you drawing water from the bottom? Usually the sponge filter has a bulls eye that attaches a air diffuser and draw water up through a lift tube. The lift tube is what creates the solid draw.

No not that. I need the name of the elbow the air line connects to

Every time I go to search for the name it I try different combinations of anything I can to figure it out. Here is a photo of a double sponge filter I am trying to make. If you look at the sponge to the left and the return shaft, there is an attachment for an air hose. I like this idea better than just shoving the hose down the line.

hmm. I'm not sure. I've never used this model. Maybe you could use the Bulls Eye somehow. I would certainly upgrade the sponges, so you have max bacteria and the stuff just doesn't fall off the sponge when you go to clean it. There's a handful of sponges that just gather bacteria on the outside of the sponge and not in the inside. Bulls Eye www.americanaquariumproducts.com/SpongeFilter.html#parts

Thanks for the info on the sponges. Not going to use this model but actually make it myself.
