I'm thinking of building a pond in my living room for my 56 gsp's. Has anyone here ever done this?
Thanks!

I built a pond in the lobby of an office before, As well I have built a small wooden pond in both my aquarium stores. Definitely easier to take care, as there is less debris to get in and less sunlight to grow algae Here is an excellent article about pond set up and care: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/ClearPond.htmlCarl

I have. I used a 150 gallon rubbermaid stock tank (http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubbermaid-structural-foam-stock-tanks-150-gal-capacity?cm_vc=-10005)
The bottom drain works perfectly to hook up a filter intake to. I kept my African Frogs in it for years. I used a Mag Drive 2400 pump to filter it with 2 Ocean Clear filters. I didn't keep plants so I used a couple pounds of carbon a month.

Had a couple indoor with water falls. Just used a pond mold liner and rocked around them.

Here's a good one for you master builders, are cinder blocks in the aquarium? i heard they leach chemicals, but then just now saw some in a guys pond. i want to turn the Puffer Penthouse into a SKY TOWER and need some strong supports for the 7 gallon tank to sit on.

Interesting question. I have used a few cinder blocks in ponds over the years without any known problems, but this is rather anecdotal evidence for proof these are safe in the water. In particular I only used a few in water volumes often over 1000 gallons Here is some evidence these may be toxic: preventdisease.com/news/15/020615_Warning-Cinder-Block-Concrete-Masonry-Gardens.shtmlAs for using these to make a stand to place aquariums, I would not advice these where you live (San Francisco Bay area). These will fall easily in even a moderate earthquake. I know this from the many aquarium installations I had in So. CA. I would prefer wood with good diagonal braces. I built all my original stores stand this way and during the 1987 Whittier Earhtquake where we were onlya couple miles from the epicenter, not one aquarium came down, including a stand that featured a few 40 gallon marine aquariums with a large 200 gallon marine aquarium on the top level. I'd love to have an indoor "pond", but it wouldn't be allowed by the Housing Authority--outdoor is not allowed either (or even the use of kiddie pools on a temporary basis) because it is considered a trip/drowning hazard by their insurance. And, the largest aquarium allowed is 55G.
I heard about using stock tanks, and even lined half whiskey barrels as patio/balcony ponds, and thought something like that would be cool--I even read in one of my old Aquarium Fish Magazines about a canoe being turned into a pond! I would have liked to have a couple of bog-plants and some "aquarium" lilies in my "small" pond, and 3 or 4 celestial-eye goldfish.

I'm using a 40G stock tank as a bog/pool add-on in my koi pond right now. It works pretty well.
