I bought two GroBeam 400s and the AquaRay Standard controller back sometime in 2013, everything has been fine until the controller died last week. It's been more than 2 years so the warranty period is over, I go to the AAP site and check the description, it says the controller: "• Uses power supply from existing AquaRay LED fixtures" and I order a replacement. It ships promptly, I receive it and go to install it and the power supply cord won't plug in, it's a different size connector. WTH?
Back to AAP to see this description for the power supply:"The Double & Single are a NEW USB Model AND requires the male USB adapter to fit to a pre 2013 model". That's funny, I purchased my lights and controller in 2013 so why do I need to spend another $31.00 for a new power supply and adapter? Nonetheless, what I just bought won't plug into what I have so I place the order. I look at the picture on the site and it shows a 2-prong power cable with the power supply.
The power supply arrived yesterday, I unboxed it this afternoon and there's no power cord. I have a box in the closet that's full of 3-prong modular cords but no 2-prong versions. So I rob my Bluetooth speaker of its cord to get the lights back on in the aquarium. Now I have to rob something else for a cord to get my speaker working again.
I guess I'm just venting, I paid $150 for a solid-state controller that didn't last 3 years in the first place(I thought TMC was top-of-the-line in quality?). So I have to spend another $155 for a new one only to find out the controller I bought in 2013 is a pre-2013 version. Now I'm out close to $200.00 and the wall wart that plugged into my outlet strip on one end and the controller on the other has transformed into a Rube Goldberg conglomerate of power cable, power block and USB adapter making a mess of my otherwise neat and organized stand.
To say I'm not exactly a Happy Camper when it comes to TMC would be an understatement! And an update to the description of the controller with some pictures would have been helpful.
