LOL not at all. I just want to see the look Devon's face when he gets an order for hundreds of 1lb bags of flourite lol. Seriously though, I do use fourite in all but one of my tanks. I do mixes of the black, red, regular, dark and Onyx. I like the look. Only downside is the stuff needs serious rinsing. Look forward to pics of your new design! Even in larger aquariums, I only used a small percentage of planted aquarium substrates to regular gravels. I would use many types of natural (& sometimes not so natural) gravels for effects, then only use planted substrate specifically around plant roots (this also included use of DIY plant substrates). I am not disagreeing with your use, only stating there is an alternative to large volumes of these pricey substrates while still achieving a healthy good looking planted aquarium. Here is an article that includes some of the natural substrate I have used: www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2006/08/aquarium-gravel-which-size.htmlThis article includes a link to a business I used to purchase a lot of substrate and rock from during my aquarium maintenance days: sunburstrock.com/pebbles.htmlCarl

Good point about light transmission Carl. I have large sheet back in Ohio. I might retrofit my tank tops with it once my cats ruin the current glass tops...

..and as far as the 300 gallon goes, there is no way I could afford Flourite or any other name brand bagged "plant" substrate. I'd have to use a decorative rock like you mentioned. I love the look of the Criba Lentejas on Sunburstrock.com
