I was reading your info on Seachem Flourite. I don't suppose they have a smaller bag? The majority of my plants are either suction cupped to the wall or Java ferns & Crypts tied to driftwood or other ornaments. I only have a small amount of plants planted in the gravel. My grass plants are planted in gravel or in my sand section. I have read they do better with an iron substrate. If I used it for those plants, I would only need aprx 2-3 cups of it. Seems a waste to buy that huge bag.

I wish they did make a smaller bag for just your point. Maybe we can break up a bag. for you and others. For Iron in the substrate, the Flourish Root Tabs generally will provide enough Resource: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Seachem.html#flourishHere is a DIY idea I have used many times in the past (from the Planted Aquarium Care article): "For an old DIY method I have used for a substrate on a budget, one can substitute Eco Complete, or similar, with a DIY sandy top soil/compost, by preparing the soil thus: Gather aged compost mixed with a sandy top soil (although not good a source of iron, adding a nail or similar to this compost as it ages can add some iron). Next, add water and then rinse and strain to remove large debris until the water runs relatively clear (do not over rinse or you remove nutrients)."Reference: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumPlants.html#substrateCarl

I was looking for the red. Any idea when that will be back in stock? I am in no hurry. I am going to be extending my sand area, and I won't need it till I move some things around.

Unless we get "shorted", we should have it in by Friday Carl

Should I be "that customer" and buy 1lb bags when I get my Marineland 300 gallon cube?

Are you making fun of me Mike? I only need it for a "river" I am going to make. That rest of that huge bag would have been just sitting around and getting in the way. Little baggies is all I need for my new design. .

LOL not at all. I just want to see the look Devon's face when he gets an order for hundreds of 1lb bags of flourite lol. Seriously though, I do use fourite in all but one of my tanks. I do mixes of the black, red, regular, dark and Onyx. I like the look. Only downside is the stuff needs serious rinsing. Look forward to pics of your new design!

Ha-ha! Oh, ok. . 300 gallon! Wow! That's huge! I have heard the Flourite needs tons of rinsing, but again, I will only be using a tiny bit. As soon as I have someone show me how to "shrink" my pictures due to the pixel size being too big, I will finally be able to share my pics with everyone. I have tons of them. (I am pretty technology clueless ) I have an idea in my head about this "Flourite river". I am going to go to this local glass place that has made things for me before, and see if they can make me this plexiglass design I am thinking of.

If you use your cell phone, there is an app called "Photo Resizer" that I use to post pics. Many, many years ago, when I had my paludarium, I used lexan to make my riverbed. I heated it and bent it as needed. Long process but fun. I used Weldon 16 for bonding and Zoopoxy for final surfacing...

What's lexan?

Lexan is a brand of polycarbonate: www.lexanplastic.com/I used Polycarbonate for tank tops since it allowed light transmission much better than glass or other acrylics, but I never used it as Mike has described Carl
