Ya, that's a good looking fluidizing filter. You had extra flow before the modifications, I wonder what happen. With that model, you would be getting like double the amount of the filtration then the 600... On the right track to me. Maybe I had a little more push with the Fuval. With the Two canister filters and a FSB filter was a over kill on filtration so I removed the Fuval for this reason. I had not thought about the FSB filter being more than I needed so I will let the water flow as it is and not fret to much... Richard

I will be getting my RIO 1100 pump and pre filter Filter-Max 2 & 3 Combo. I plan on removing the Sunsun 303b and installing the RIO pump behind driftwood in my 75 to run the FSB filter and Vecton 200 UV. I need to set up my 37 gal to breed in so I will be setting it up as a planted tank.

I removed the Sunsun 303B Canister from the filtering configuration on the 75 gal. I have installed the Rio 1100 pump and pre-filters and rearranged the Drift wood to help hide the unit. The FSB filter and the Vecton 200 UV look good together with no clutter. I replaced the rocks, "that came with FSB" with Ceramic Pre-Filter Media because the sand settles into a tight bed that the RIO 1100 couldn't push through. I also removed one of the Red Tiger Lotus and put it in the 37 gal where I will attempt to breed my Tigers and Cory's. It was also really nice to raise the light bar up out of my way and yet still have all the light I need to see what I'm doing. AAP has set me up with some really nice high quality equipment. As I sit here looking out my window at the pond, I can't wait till it warms up to begin working on the pond and the garden. I will receive the Rail and cable kit to hang the added lights to day. I am also going to turn the Sunsun into a glorified sub-straight vacuum cleaner after it finishes the seeding process for the FSB filter. I will get pictures of it when I get it together. I will be starting the worm farming blog soon.... Richard

Pond! It is about that time. You have some ice still So, you're just down to the sand filter now? It's a clean set-up. Is that the only filter you have running on the tank? So, are you cycling that filter now? Do you have pre-filtration on the Rio? Best is to have some canister filter pre-filtration. Sponges do work, just need to be maintained more.

I have the *Filter-Max 2 & 3 Combo: as pre-filter hooked up to the Rio and the Sunsun is still cycling the tank until the FSB filter is established. I am also using Seachem Stability daily doses as if it was a new tank. I don't mind cleaning sponge filters because I like getting my sleeves wet all the time. Richard

Clean looking set up!
Your pond certainly looks cold, but maybe the warm air sitting over the west will move your way and thaw it out!

Clean looking set up! Your pond certainly looks cold, but maybe the warm air sitting over the west will move your way and thaw it out! Carl It had 4 inches of ice covering it just 3 weeks ago. The deep end is 3 feet deep. There are two Coy I have had for years and the last lime I measured them they where about 18 inches long. When it gets real hot I climb into the pond to cool off with them and they will come up to me to see if I have anything for them to eat... Richard

Now that's winter like I like.... I received my lights and installed them... total awesome lighting! Once the Red Tiger lilies cover the surface I will have low light below again... The Tiger barbs asked for sun glasses...

While the above normal (record in some places) is nice, it is ruining our snow pack we need for the summer, so you may have it. Further south in So. CA where I lived for much of my life, it has been in the upper 80s. While I miss some aspects of living there, I found these crazy hot winter days that would sometimes pop up out of place and did not care for them (normal for Winter was mid to upper 60s). I prefer 4 seasons, but maybe not butt cold or hot. Carl

I have a very slow growing Algae in my 75. It grows a little slower than diatoms and started pearling today. Is this anything I need to deal with. Richard

Pearling means it may be growing rapidly.
Make sure your nitrates are not too high (less than 40 ppm)
I would suggest vacuuming this directly off from this log, then scrubbing remaining, then vacuuming again any remnants.

Ammonia .05, No2 .05, No3 20 I know I pulled the canister filter off to fast. I started Stability as a new tank last night and will continue for 7 days, also added Excel back to the daily dosing, I shouldn't have stopped using it. I also did a 20 min bath with Excel on the plants. I have Diatoms as well on the Nubia's I did a 10 gal H2O change

Hows your flow in the tank? You have a power head to keep the algae/detritus up in the water column so it can be taken out by the filter...? Or just the flow of the sand filter now.

Good point for this type of slime algae Carl I have bubbles blowing up the middle of the tank. It creates a boiling effect on the surface. I wasn't to worried about this algae because it grows so slow and has a deep green color and a velvet texture. Richard

Good to know!
As long as this does not get "out of control", especially getting on the plants, I would not be too concerned then.
