I introduced wonder shells yesterday to my 75 gal tank. In 24 hours the wonder shell straightened out my calcium. No matter what I did, I could not get my Ca up to 100 ppm. Wonder shell moved my Ca level to 100 ppm in 24 hours... I totally recommend Wonder shells!
I also used the shell to scrub down the glass on the left half side of my tank to see how long it will deter the scummy film that comes back every 8 to 10 days. Keep you posted.

Hey guys- When you say "scummy film" are you talking about the bio-film that builds up in the tanks in between the weekly rub-down of the inside tank walls? Or, is there something else that I have not seen or noticed. I only ask because I have never heard of doing a glass wipe with a wondershell and would like to find the benefits of this.
BTW- outside of this new thing I'm hearing.... I also love the wondershells as they serve as assurance that the proper cation is in my water. Rock on AAP!

Bill Yes, I believe this bio-film is what is being referred to. I personally have used the Wonder Shell for years and only used these for this purpose on occasion, but this is one more use for this product. Carl

I dropped a large wonder shell in my outdoor pond, about 500 gal when water is low; 2 weeks ago. I thought that it would be gone by now but it has hardly dissolved. The pond must be good on minerals...

Richard Often when water is added regularly due to high evaporation (aquarium or pond) or run off water finds its way into the pond, a Wonder shell will dissolve quite slowly. I do not know if either scenario applies, but these are two possibilities Carl

We do not use man made pesticides or fertilizer's in our yard so I don't have to worry about them getting in the water. I would say the minerals are being supplied by the beds but I will still have a wonder shell in the pond.

OK, well that answers this question IMO While the Wonder Shell will not hurt, it probably is not needed much here either to be honest with you Carl

Predictably, I am wondering of the magnesium in Wonder Shells does trigger dissolved molecular Hydrogen in the water. I don't understand the chemistry on this point, but I am pursuing that line of inquiry. For the rest of it, I am a bit unclear about the replacement cycle, and I have a small wondershell in my ATO tank and a large one in my 29G tank. I am simply letting them go down to the point of disappearing, and then I put in a new one. What is people's experience on that point?

I am simply letting them go down to the point of disappearing, and then I put in a new one. What is people's experience on that point? I generally have replaced the WS shortly after dissolving or sometimes before fully dissolved. What differs is what I am trying to achieve. With aquariums such as Lake Malawi African Cichlids I will keep what the original manufacturer calls a full dose and replace quickly when dissolved. With aquariums such as Discus or even Betta Bowls, I use but a fraction (often as little as 1/8 the so-called recommended dose), just as long there is some amount of Wonder Shell present. While I have not tested ORP in all these circumstances, what I have both observed and found in tests that this method of adjusting WS use as per the type of fish and biotope kept works best (something the original manufacturer of this product has never quite figured out as per their often incorrect instructions) Carl

I keep 1/2 a large wonder shell in my 75. When it gets to half that size I remove it and place it in my 37 and then place a new 1/2 wonder shell in my 75.
Richard
PS... Watch your Ca+ level, when it drops below 100 ppm then you know you need a new wonder shell.
