Another thing I have been mislead on is that "Pearling" only happens when the water can't hold any more O2, plants will begin forming bubbles on the leaves. When studying Carl's article on plant care I found this "You can sometimes tell if aquarium plants are photosynthesizing by observing the plants. When small bubbles form on the leaves of plants it is a sign that photosynthesis is occurring. This is commonly referred to as pearling". I am glad that I made the decision to leave the other Board and dedicate my learning to come from Carl who knows what he is talking about.

Thanks again for the article plug! The keywords are "only" and "sometimes" When someone states that this "only happens when water cannot hold any more CO2", they are ruling out the other possibility, which in the case of the picture here of a foxtail pearling, this tank was not driven with high amounts of CO2 thus ruling out such an absolute statement. On the other hand, using the word "sometimes" means that this is simply not the only way pearling can occur and leaves open that the water not holding any more CO2 is also possible. While Co2 is a major player in pearling, it's not the only thing that makes it happen. My experience, it has to be a very established aquarium, with steady parameter... Case in point... I've heard of planted tank running fluorescence... It had plants pearling only under the blue bulbs, but not the white or reds. So there was something about the more intense blue.
