My Panda cories spawned out of the blue in the big community tank, much to my surprise. I gathered up as many eggs as I could and floated them in a container. Yesterday they hatched out, and I removed the unhatched eggs this morning. Looks like I have 15 of the little guys. Well, "Little" ... they seem huge to me compared to the bettas...they look like tadpoles. It's the first time I've had a surprise spawn of anything. Anyway. Does anyone have some feeding tips? I'm starting up a BBS hatchery tonight, but I threw away my microworms months ago. Since I don't have microworms, are vinegar eels an acceptable first food instead? Will they eat golden pearls, frozen BBS, and frozen rotifers?

Ah, thank goodness. Everything I was seeing said "microworms" as though they are the answer to everything, and I didn't really have enough notice to buy a new culture.
Looks like they aren't too challenging to care for. Nifty; we really need to expand our shoal, but I was gun shy about bringing more in.
One of them still had the shell stuck over his head yesterday evening, and I was getting worried. Poor little guy looked like he was wearing a helmet from Spaceballs. I took a feeding pipette and gently "blew" water over him from different angles until the shell popped off. He went and joined the panda pile with his siblings right away. Yay! His fins looked a little bent... we'll see what happens. If even half live, I'll be more up to the numbers that I wanted in the first place.

Wonderful news. Brine shrimp was my recommendation.

They are doing well. All 16 (I initially miscounted) have pink bellies. I can actually see the panda markings already. Very adorable little critters.

No problem! When they get a bit bigger, I will move them to a small tank with sand. Right now I am using bare bottom for ease of cleaning.
