Mother-in-law knocked on my door at 6am this morning, saying that the lights on fish tank were flickering.
Went out there and found that my 55G tank had popped a bottom seam and had completely drained out over night.
I managed to save all but one fish, now I just have to find them a home.
I've got hardwood floor damage, no clue how much of my gear is damaged from running dry.

That's horrible. Any aquarium owner's worst nightmare. Hope you can rebuild. How do you figure the seam went?

So sorry to read this!
I hope the damage to the home was not too bad either.
This is really rare, as I had literally 1000s of aquariums under my care and can think of this only happening a couple of times, including many that made it through major earthquakes.

Agreed. I've seen it happen once with a friend who didn't have his tank level and it happened to me after I moved 200 gallon (had to redo secondary seal). If you have a paypal account, I'd be happy to throw some money your way to get you back up and running...

Yeah, I've never heard of it happening, that's for sure. I think I'm just going to go without for a while, it's time to winterize the pond anyway.

I could help as well. Whenever you feel like getting back in it Parker. You've done so much for the forum. Thank you.

I still plan on being here and participating - I love this place! I just need a break from fish tanks for a while. The insurance company wants us to refinish the floors which means we'll have to actually leave the house for almost a week. It's just a big freaking hassle. If I do jump back in, I'm honestly thinking of going for goldfish and doing something different.
