I just performed a 25% water change while my tank is still cycling and removed quite a bit of plant melt debris and spent quite a bit of time scooping out a bunch of larvae with a strainer, but when I was done cleaning and thought I had strained all the larvae out when I put the light back on I noticed there were many more tiny larvae all over in the water column.
I don't have any circulation on the water surface as I have plants and plan on introducing bettas when the tank completely cycles, but could this be the reason why they appeared? Should I not worry since the betta will devour these once they are in? or if water surface movement is necessary, what form would be most appropriate for a planted/betta aquarium?
Thank you,
Ingrid

I would not worry Obviously Mosquito got into your aquarium and laid eggs, and the Betta will thank them once introduced!

The food is not a problem... I normally recommend more flow, so this doesn't happen though. This and other things that can happen with slow to no flow.
Plants will need some flow too... This is a creative way to get algae off the leaves as well. Something to consider.
