carl, i have been putting finishing touches on a custom build 150 gallon wooden aquarium and thinking about a 50 gallon sump design. i would like level 2 sterilization if possible and have reading your article extensively. if i did the math correctly i am looking at 600 gph through a single 50w UV @ 12gph. i know i can use 2 25W vectrons but do they need to have 600gph through each return?! can i do 300 gph in each for 600 gph total tank turnover? if not then Im looking at 1200 gob total tank turnover which might be too strong for the discus tank. the tank itself is 60x24x24 with a 1500 gph max overflow box in the middle of the back wall and 2 returns (1 on each end). P. S. the fluidized bed with biopellets never did work out for me. no results at all. prob faulty design on my part. i know you tried to help me extensively if you recall

Either 2 25 Watt Vectons end to end at 600 gph or separate Vecton 25 Watt UVs at 300 gph will work. However if I were to choose, I would pick the separate. In tests many years back using time to clear a tank I purposely clouded up, I found that two UVs run from different ends of an aquarium, having a separate circulation pattern worked slight better. Ditto with similar tests with ponds in clearing green water. Product Resource: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/TMCUVSterilizer.htmlCarl
