It may be, the tail does not quite seem right to be a Ranchu, but then I am not an expert with the breed either. Here is something that might be helpful: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RanchuCarl

Does anyone have any ideas on what type of goldfish this could be? As I said, I've never seen one like this and from what I've read, the Ranchu goldfish are called 'the king of goldfish' and are usually expensive, especially if they're all black. I paid $5.98 for this fish, seems like I got a good deal! I'll try to post a video if I can, maybe that would help? Thank you very much to anyone that has any input!!

Thanks for sharing the video! I think it is a juvenile Ranchu, but as I noted before, I am not an expert. What I can say is that even if his/her pedigree is not 100%, you certainly got a good deal IMO! Carl

My opinion, but I'm in no way an expert...It looks like a juvenile Ranchu.
Welcome btw. Nice to have you around. What got you into tank keeping?

I've been taking care of fish tanks for as long as I can remember. I think my parents started me out with a betta bowl or two, but I can't remember NOT having a fish tank. When I was in elementary school, I'd set up a tank in my classroom every year. Right now, I have the planted tank that the goldfish video is of (it's 30-something gallons; my younger sister got it, I wanna say 32 & a half). There's also scissortail rasboras and different types of tetras in there. My other tank is 55 gallons and has a mixture of African and South American cichlids and they do get along as much as any other cichlids would. I also have a huge spiny eel and a reed fish in there. Eels and eel-like fish are my favorites.

I'm thinking I should pay more attention to their fancy goldfish selection if I got such a good deal on this guy. Anyone happen to know how much a juvenile Ranchu usually goes for?
