While I was at Petco, I picked up 6 Ghost Shrimp, and 2 fish....(actually I got the Betta at Petsmart) I got a halfmoon plakat Elephant Ear Betta, he's more violet/pink (depending on the angle) than he shows in the photos, and is a total of ~1 3/4" long, so he's probably a youngster:

The cory in these (and the above) pictures was brought to the store by someone. She's 2" long from her nose to the base of her tail, and she only cost me $1! There's no guarantee on her, but for a dollar I don't care . She looks like a paleatus, except that she doesn't have the banding in her tail...only a couple, as opposed to the 6-8 that she should have. [the shrimp kept getting in the way.] They're all in the 10G now, and the cory is fairly active. Her tail is held more erect than in the middle picture most of the time. The Betta is pretty mobile, too .

And the last couple of the cory: I took some more a bit later, after introducing them to the Quarantine Tank, but I took them after downloading these. Happy, Happy ! Angelminx

I haven't decided on a name for the cory, yet, but since the Betta is "so small", I am assuming he hatched in February, so I've named him Valentine . [Edit: as mentioned elsewhere, I've named the cory Bee.]

Sad news, while my computer was out of commission Valentine died . I have know idea why...one day he was happily swimming about the tank, the next he wasn't very active (mostly just resting in one place), and towards the evening he wasn't even showing any interest in food (even the frozen bloodworms)...the next morning he was dead. I doubt he was very old, because he didn't look full-grown, and I could find nothing physically wrong with him . Water parameters, and the other few fish in with him were all fine.

Because Valentine is gone, I have decided to go with some catfish to keep the cycle in the (quarantine/hospital) tank running, and to house them there till I transition the 55G to a catfish tank. Originally I wanted to maybe get some Betta imbellis, AKA Peaceful Bettas, to replace him, but no one has them . Currently the tank houses: 4 baby banjos 4 Upsidedown Catfish 3 rummynose teras (growing them out because too small for the 55G--don't want them to be fish food) 1 unidentified snowball pleco 1 small ghost shrimp 4 or 5 Nerite snails and 5 chocolate rabbit snails (2 adults, 2 "kids", and 1 "toddler") I don't intend on getting anything else for quite a while other than maybe some more ghost shrimp, and I want to bring the count of USDCs to 6. [Edit: last night I saw the other ghost shrimp swimming around with the 1st one...they are way too small for the 55G.]

Basically the fish are all that are "new" (other than the new baby rabbit snail that I discovered in the tank a couple weeks ago). I got the catfish all at the same time, and the rummynoses over approximately the last 2 months. I just finished posting their saga under Schooling fish. I had Valentine when I got the 1st "installment" of rummynoses, but he died before the 2nd batch. They may have had something that infected him, but I tend to think their problem was just weakness/stress. [Before adding the 1st group of rummynoses, I had moved some juvenile paleatus to the 55G...they had been in the tank for a couple of months, and never showed any sign of anything wrong.]
