Carl I hope that you were pleased with what you received. Have you done any taste testing? I thought that you would probably like the dark green wafer like Herbivore best.

Carl/Clay,
I have one suggestion.
For the "recommended usage" sections, you have a lot of scientific names. I would suggest changing those to more common names.

Yes, sorry. Most people don't know all the scientific names of the fish, I would guess.

Yes, sorry. Most people don't know all the scientific names of the fish, I would guess. I changed or added to the scientific names. Yes, I actually did taste the Herbivore and Omnivore. Both were very fresh and clean to the palate, although I think I liked the Omnivore slightly better Funny you should ask, as I have sampled fish foods for decades to see what differences I could taste Carl

Update on my food. My fish are really taking to the new food. They really go after it when it goes into the water. The fact that it sinks doesn't even bother them, expect for my one kissing gourami, which really like to be feed on top of the water. In his case, I just grab a little from the bottom of the bag and crush it between my fingers to make it so it will float. My big old pleco even comes out of his "spot" during his nap time when the food is put into the water. I'm thinking it's the smell that drives them wild. I'm excited to see what will happen long term

Wow. Your fish foods look awesome clayn! It's wonderful that you are focused so much on the quality of ingredients and health of the fish. I had no idea that grain-based foods could give fish fatty livers. Great to know. I would be interested in using the Paradigm Omnivore or Paradigm Herbivore for my goldfish. The only issue is that I have only 4 goldfish and have quite a bit of fairly high to high quality for them now that will probably expire before I can use it all. :/ Since I don't want to end up wasting too much fof what I have now, clayn, do you sell any of those foods in a 2oz size by any chance? I really would like to try your food for my goldfish. Thanks and best of luck selling it! You seem to be off to a good start! Renee

I apologize for my lack of response. I am building a new large dehydrator which is taking all of my time.
Thats great news Devon! I am glad that your fish are enjoying it!
Renee ask Carl about selling a small amount. That is not in my area. If Carl does not want to sell in small amounts I can probably come up with a sample for you.

No problem Clayn. I'll pm Carl to see if he can do that next time I order from him. That is very nice of you to offer if Carl can't. I'm not expecting to order from Carl again soon (did my fishy shopping for the year already), but maybe I'll need something before then. Renee

I don't need food for a while, although I will need to get some more frozen food around the end of October. I do wish that the Paradagim came in smaller sizes, though.

I've been having great success with the food. All my fish rush over when I'm feeding it and this doesn't happen with every food I feed them. Even my Pleco rushes out (every time), which he never used to do. I feed him chunks of the Paradigm.
Also want to say congrats to Clay for the success so far with the food. From what I've been seeing, they have been a constant seller.
I also plan on videoing when I feed the Paradigm. The video I've seen from the Paradigm YouTube shows placing large chunks in the tank and having the fish work it apart. I do it a little differently, where I break the chunks apart by rolling them in my fingers first and then feed. My fish are able to eat it right away. I know there has been some concern (another thread here on EA) about how hard the food looks. It's not bad at all and I think a video would be nice to show this. Clay, once the video is done, you are welcome to use it how you please. If you like it, that is.
Great job again.

Hi angelminx, I break it up to some degree for shipping purposes. For some reason most people want the larger pieces. Unfortunately at this time we don't have enough of the smaller pieces to sell on a large scale. Which food or foods are you interested in? Clay

Clay, once the video is done, you are welcome to use it how you please. If you like it, that is. Great job again. I will let you in on a secret. When we were finalizing the formulas I sent multiple formulas of each type to my partners for testing. Omnivore 1 was immediately ruled out because it was very hard and dense. A couple of months ago they decided to try Omnivore 1 as a pleco food. After some testing they found that even with plecos constantly grazing on the food it lasted for 22 hours. So I have tried to make all three types of Graze with no luck. So I went back to Omnivore 1 and realized it was the percentages of spirulina, green pea flour, egg whites and whole fish meal that made this work. It is a middle of the road omnivore food since the ingredients and percentages make it work. We are planning on launching it at The All-Aquarium Catfish Convention in October. From what we have found this will be the first food that lasts almost a day with fish constantly munching on it. Thank you for all of the kind comments! Feel free to post the video on Paradigm facebook page www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008279551101&fref=ts&ref=br_tf. While you are there scroll down and read Rebecca B's thoughts on the food.

Thanks, Clay. As I stated before, I don't need the food yet. Except for one that I opened at the end of last year, all of the foods I have had been opened sometime after the beginning of this year--before I even found the AAP site (except for the Spirulina 20 which Carl recommended), and the ones with expiration dates have quite a while to go on them. I've read that you shouldn't use dry foods any more after they've been open for a year. [What's your opinion on that, Carl?]
I was thinking about getting all 3 (except the Grow). What is your opinion? I have a Betta (in a separate tank with some ghost shrimp); and 2 adult angels, some tetras (Black Phantom and Black Neon), some cories (sold as "assorted spotted cories" that are probably agassizii, ambiacus, or something similar--all my books have the pictures of these two mixed up with both names, but they also look slightly different), an albino bristlenose pleco, and some shrimp (ghost, amano, and bamboo), as well as some Nerites, as well as a couple Chocolate Rabbit Snails. These all live in my 55G. I am also looking to add one or more SAEs.

I think using dry food for a year after opening is a reasonable rule of thumb, but there is no real science behind this either. You could also use the "smell test", in which if it smells stale, to not use it.
The biggest problem with food that has been opened for some time is loss of nutrients. Now if the food was not kept in a dry location or humidity has gotten inside the container, then it is possible for bacteria, Saprolegnia to get into the food. Adding desiccants to your sealed dry food container will extend the freshness and also likely prevent bacteria an/or Saprolegnia from growing.

Interesting. I haven't heard of such a thing. I wonder how the fish would take to trying to eat it at first and through the day. My pleco would most likely run over and sit on it so no one else could try to eat on it. He "claims" whatever hits the tank bottom. Ill make that video soon and put it on FB. And read the comments. Thanks Clay for the inside info.
