I am starting this thread based on discussions I have had in emails and in our office to remind readers here at EA how important it is to know the optimum water parameters, contraindications, and aquarium inhabitants to use or not to use certain meds with
Often I find persons are more and more inclined to blame the medication rather than user error
To make the point, I will use an example of myself since I too have been guilty of this!
Back in my first job at an upscale mall pet store (in the fish department), I was treating a saltwater aquarium and decided to use Nitrofurazone (Furan 2 nowadays).
This tank had arrow crabs and urchins, which promptly lost their legs and spines after a couple of treatments.
I was frustrated with this medication until a co-worker asked me if I had actually read some of the side effects which included not to use with most saltwater invertebrates as well as many freshwater invertebrates too.
Of course I had to answer NO.
My point is always no what you are treating with, how it works, what it can be effective for and what not, optimum water parameters, and any contraindications.
