Greetings All, In another post, I promised to share some great sites I refer to for information about the fish I own. Here is a spectacular site for Rainbowfish: rainbowfish.angfaqld.org.au/Contents: rainbowfish.angfaqld.org.au/Melano.htmTake a look at all the handsome fellows and you will find yourself looking for rainbowfish, too. Rainbows are my favorites.... with corydoras a close second. Judy D.

So far no one around here carries Rainbowfish either. My favorites are the Praecox (Dwarf Neon), and the Pseudomugil conniae (Popondetta) and P. gertrudae (Spotted Blue-eye), and the Ireatherina werneri (Threadfin). I have a book on Rainbowfish (most of my other books only mention 1 or 2 Spp. if any at all) by T.F.H. Publications, Inc.: "Rainbowfishes: Keeping and Breeding Them In Captivity" 1998 (68 pages), by Derek Lambert (publication # RE-627; ISBN 0-7938-0376-4) that is really nice. I paid $5.99 for it when I got it...Unless it's in the way (and if there are any), I keep the price stickers that are on the books when I buy them . Angelminx

Hey Devon - Have bucket will travel! I can't buy them in town either.... I drive at least 45 miles away to buy them. I will be buying some more Boesemani this week from Dayton, OH - over 60 miles away. I don't count the cost of gas when I buy fish -- chuckles. Findlay OH ordered a Kamaka rainbow for me - and some Boesemani, but the Boesemani tank at headquarters had a filter malfunction last weekend, so fish aren't fit for travel this week (I wouldn't want any from that batch now anyways). Fortunately, the Dayton area store got their Boesemani rainbows last week before the mishap. I will give the Kamaka rainbow a few days to settle in at the store and will drive up there (Findlay) Monday.
I don't make the trips if it is too cold -- so won't buy many fish over the winter months. Rainbows don't come available very often....Got to get them when I can. I can't even imagine ordering a rainbow online... I have to pick mine out myself. Sometimes I pass on the rainbows I went to buy, but will come home with something else so the trip wasn't wasted.
When the local Jack's Pets closed in 2012, the company thought they would open another one up in a year or two... Apparently they are getting enough money from me that they decided Lima, OH doesn't need a store (grin).
My son originally had three Boesemani rainbows when he was in college. His friend named them Roy, Gee, and Biv.... By the time I got the fish, Biv was already gone. So...I suppose I like them because my son liked them, too. Roy and Gee were both injured by the crayfish and died -- although Roy lived a good year or two after he was injured (Gee was outright murdered -- I so hated that crayfish! Hubby thought it would be "cool" so my son bought one for the tank after we brought the fish to our house). I replaced them with Roy2 and Gee2. Roy2 lived to be 7 years old. Gee2 was the reason I got a hospital tank.
I have a lot of fish that my son likes/liked, too....Often that is the reason I like them (smile). He really likes S. American cichlids and Severums now. I probably won't get into those, but I will adopt his smaller ones when he moves.
Cheers,
Judy

Willing to put the effort in for the things we want. The cost of gas can almost be the willingness... My LFS is getting a new shipment in today, I'll see what I can find
