I am getting a 6x2x2 tank made for my outdoor undercover area. A wooden or steel stand cannot be used as this area gets hosed out. So Besser Blocks it is.... I started building it today....still needing around 15 blocks to complete, but as it is so far

I am getting a 6x2x2 tank made for my outdoor undercover area. Outdoor tank? That sounds so cool... Simply not possible in my neck of the woods (not year round anyway). For half the year, that tank would be better referred to as an iceberg... Looking forward to seeing this!

Great! I don't know if I would have thought of that for even an indoor tank. Luckily I had bought my 55G stand back when I was a Pet Groomer in anticipation of one day getting a 55G. It's a basic wood-frame stand that used to be popular just before cabinet-stands really emerged. I'd never be able to afford a stand now--even the junky ones are expensive, but with your idea I might be able to "throw one together" if I ever need a replacement.

Interesting project! What you call besser blocks, I have always known as cinder blocks I had a few clients over the years with outside aquariums on porches, covered walkways, etc.. One in particular I remember was in Huntington Beach CA. However I probably could not have gotten away with cinder/besser block stands in So CA with the earthquake potential Carl

The overhead wont be the main filtration, I will be using it mainly to grow some terrestrial type plants above the main tank. Main filtration will end up being a pond filter

Updated pic * i will be painting the visible foam that the tank is sitting on black. I also need to setup the bulkheads in the sump, decide what pump to use and organize hoses etc

This will be the first time I've seen anyone put the sump on top. It's going to add a whole level of creativity. Very nice indeed.

So I'm assuming by "native" you mean fish species indigenous to your local area? What kinds of fish are you thinking?

I just got back from Petco (had to pick up my TFH magazine, and replace the ceramic catfood bowl I just broke) and they had a couple of beautiful adult-sized Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish (for $8.99--how does that price compare to other areas?). I would love to have bought them, but Angelminx is in the quarantine tank with King right now, and I really don't have room.

That seems to be a good price to me.
Shipping is the number one cost of fish, so if your retailer can obtain fish with as little shipping cost and middle persons as possible this will lower costs. This applies to importers too, which is why so many economy livestock suppliers will often over pack their fish when they acquire them from the breeder/source.

$8.99 for Neon Dwarf Rainbows! Makes me want to head to the nearest Petco in my area to see if they have some. I haven't seen large Neon Rainbows priced that low since 2012. If I were you, I would make room for them. How about just giving them a 30 minute Methylene Blue bath when you get them home?....Acclimate them to the display tank - then dosing the display tank with Melafix and Pimafix (alternating twelve hours a part for two days). See how they do. If they start to show signs of illness, you can always return them to the store (at least you can with most stores). The Methylene Blue --and Melafix and Pimafix should ward off any bacterial diseases.....but not necessarily parasites.
I have had great success using Kordon Fish Prep with new rainbows.... no need to quarantine. Haven't seen any sign of illness yet in any new rainbow.
Let us know if you decide the buy them. They won't last long at that price. The males will be purchased very quickly - leaving only females.

Thanks, guys!
I'm going to give them a call as soon as I get off the computer, and if they still have them will have them hold them for me!
