Greetings, All of you know that I know nothing about salt water fish..... today I did a Google search for Microbe-Lift Herbtana Review -- and I found this forum that has a member who gave it a try: www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/trial-run-of-microbe-lift-herbtana-ich-killer-144367.htmlNo replies necessary.... It just gave me a smile. The fish got better and no harm to the rest of his tank. I know you all have treatments that are successful.

I know this is the SALTWATER section, but I didn't want to start another Microbe Lift Herbtana thread. I know the majority of members here do not use that product......
While I was at my son's, I checked another forum and found they actually told members FALSE information about Herbtana. You folks are at least open to the possibility the product might work (so thank you).
In that forum the member posted that they dosed with Herbtana and "raised the temperature as instructed" -- and some shrimp died (they blamed the Herbtana!) -- so they were stopping treatment and going to Melachite Green. NO WHERE does it state in instructions to raise the temperature of the water. One of the safest aspects about Herbtana is that is works without raising the temperature (temperature remains at a constant 75 to 78 degrees). Raising the temperature stresses the fish out -- and lowers oxygen level.
Thanks for letting me "vent" my frustration.
Cheers,
Judy

If Microbe-Lift would just publish their ingredients, I'm guessing we could confirm that Herbtana is a napthoquinone medication, kind of like Kordon's Herbal Ich Attack. Of course, Kordon publishes their ingredients so we know exactly what the medicine is and what it is supposed to do.

Just a funny for you all,
Microbe Lift's ingredients are "magic".... I was playing around online last night (hubby was watching a ball game when my TV show was on...I will catch mine on demand). Artemiss comes from the Goddess Artemis - protector of Women (grin). I couldn't find any mythological reference for Herbtana....so the only reference is Herbal - a "magic potion".
So, I guess my "leap of faith" comment isn't too far off (smile). I discovered these two products while poking around on Microbe Lift's web site years ago. I had already been using Special Blend and TheraP (the two bacteria additives) and my fish and aquarium looked better as a result. Impressed with both of those, I wanted to see what other products were available. I did try some products I didn't like as well as "tried and true" from other manufacturers. The Microbe Lift products were just as good -but no reason for me to change. I still use Kordon's Nova Aqua Plus and Amquel Plus, for instance.....and Microbe Lift Nite-Out II wasn't superior (and needed to be refrigerated so was an inconvenience).
I still have a whole bottle of Kordon Ich Attack (napthoquinone and other natural ingredients).... but haven't needed it (if I ever did have an Ich outbreak). No idea if the bottle is still good. Kordon's Ich Attack does kill the Ich (but won't cause the parasite to drop off). When I was only using Ich Attack - if I noticed a fish with Ich, I would do a water change (to improve water conditions) -- then follow the directions. Providing the fish was in good health otherwise, Kordon's Ich Attack did the job and no other fish got Ich.
You are right though...not knowing exactly what is in it can cause some problems. If there is a reaction with another product - you have no idea what may have caused it (and you have no way of researching to find out). I did have a problem when I use another product to help boost immune system. I won't mention it here - but did write a review on the site from which I purchased it (I did not blame the product I had purchased-- since it could have even been what the city was adding to the water).
I am just ultra careful not to have any other product/treatment in the water when Herbtana and Artemiss are used. I will use Chemi Pure AND Polyfilter for over 24 hours to remove medication as well as do two 25% water changes (not the same day) before returning to either Artemiss or Herbtana. I even do this when changing back and forth from Melafix and Pimafix (the 75 gallon hasn't had stronger meds since fall 2011 - with the exception of a dose of Prazi Pro a couple times a year as preventative -- and that is always done when no other treatments are needed).
Believe me, I understand your reasons not to take a risk on the "unknown"...Most of you have very expensive fish. I didn't have as many fish when I started using the products.... I sure have more fish now (grin). First just the 75 gallon..... then a 10 gallon added for a hospital tank... Hospital tank no longer needed for sick fish, so was soon upgraded to a 20 gallon high when I wanted more fish.....still had the 10 gallon - so more small fish joined our home....Wanted more, so added the 20 gallon Xtra High. Original ten gallon looking a bit shabby (and Aqueon top didn't quite fit it anyways - the original 10 gallon was Marineland and a slightly different size), so was replaced with a better ten gallon (oldest 10 gallon back to hospital tank - the newer 10 gallon is quarantine tank). My fish are just something for me to do in my retirement.......(former art teacher).
