After all of the discussion the last few days, it dawned on me that I haven't posted a pic of my 55G in a long, long time. I've long since stopped with CO2 injection and all that other stuff. For fish, I'm down to mostly angels and some catfish. I've lost almost all of my tetras over the years and haven't replaced them. For plants, all I've got is Crypts and Java Ferns. As I mentioned, I don't do CO2 and I also don't do ferts or anything else. In fact, other than a water change every 6 weeks or so, I don't touch my tanks much at all. It certainly isn't the showpiece that Alasse's tanks are but it's 100% unadulterated, all-natural wilderness.

It certainly looks really good IMO It also stands as a model of minimum care, especially since I took have found with a healthy bio system, often enough bio available carbon is produced that when combined with good lighting will still produce excellent plant growth. Carl

I think the tank looks good. IMO, with this many plants, you need Co2. It would help the algae issue. High light+low Co2/carbon=algae

Although if enough bio available carbon is produced by inhabitants this is often "enough" Or the addition of the Flourish Excel, which I know you have used in the past. Carl

Yeah, I don't normally have much algae. It only started up after this water change. Of course, I always have spots here and there but it's totally tolerable.
I'm going to start more Excel as soon as it gets here.

The tank does look nice though. Nice enough for Carl to use it for some promotions here and there! Thanks for sharing an updated picture.

Your natural aquatic jungle looks awesome. You sparked an interest in plants for me since I do not want to have an aquatic garden that requires anything but water changes. Of course I am not ready for this type venture yet but its nice to know it can be done

As long as you can tolerate the fact that it's nothing more than a wild weed patch - it's not aquascaped at all and you have zero control over plant growth/looks/etc. - it works quite well. Honestly, I'm more interested in a well-rounded bio environment (the plants are good for my fish and vice versa) than I am some kind of showpiece...
