Goodafternoon, I am so appreciative of the recent web sites I finally found containing accurate info (AAP and APA)! I was really struggling there. I am really just introducing myself here but have some specific questions on some products purchased at AAP. Not product issues, but rather clarification for things I havent found going back thru sites. I looked for a Q&A page on AAP and Aquarium-Pond-Answers but really just ended up here. I'm still learning aquatics/chemistry and prior to finding these sites or purchasing products, I had been on a couple other forums and asked at LFS's and you'd think I was the expert. :-(
I looked up threads on medicated wondershells but couldn't extract needed info and am currently using them.
This is not an emergency (it is sunday afternoon, after all), but if someone can respond as to where to post those kinds of questions, I'd be grateful. I also checked for responses to be emailed as well as forum so I can reduce lag time.
Thanks for being here.
Kevin

Welcome to Everything Aquatic! What is your question(s) about the Medicated Wonder Shells? (This would probably be best asked in the General Questions section) Carl

Hey Kevin, welcome!
You can post your question in the General Discussion tread or the Question/Concern thread. Both will do.
Good people here to answer your questions.
To get emails sent to you each time someone answers, you go to Profile on the top bar. Then Edit Profile, then notification. There is a list of reason and whens to have emails sent to you.
Anyways, welcome to you the group!

Welcome to Everything-Aquatic kevin! Unfortunately, many aquatic forums and LFS often give misinformation. I have to say this is definitely the most honest and trustworthy aquatic forum and website I have found. That said, I hope you enjoy the forum and find the answers and resources here useful! Renee

Welcome to Everything Aquatic! What is your question(s) about the Medicated Wonder Shells? (This would probably be best asked in the General Questions section) Carl Thanks Carl, hopefully I can respond here vs new post in general discussion--like I said, still figuring this out. I put a large medicated Wonder Shell in and waited until approx 2/3 done as instructed, (which only took a little over two days) but when it said put new one in, I didn't know if I should be leaving the original one still in there-I figured the shell sizes corresponded to tank size for a reason so putting two large ones in a 65 gal tank seemed too much-even tho meds are kind of time released. I pulled the original out, bagged it until the second was 2/3 or better, and just today threw back in. Don't know if that was right or wrong? On sat when I did the above, I been reading all the instructions for each individual medication application on your site(for all the products in the med shell) and each time it said "use meds 30 min after using Prime". I had done a 20% water change after first med shell per inst, and used Prime as the tap conditioner. But I put the shell in right after doing change. The med shell instructions on web site didn't address about a time period after Prime so maybe thats just the full strength individual meds? I know the directions for the med shells were to use for two to three weeks max, but if they are getting depleted this quickly, do I keep putting them in for a full two weeks? Tomorrow (wed) will be 8 days. Not sure if only doing two is cutting the full dosing series short or not-as you advised not to do. (I am not getting into why the need, or the other water problems here since that isn't specific to this particular question; I read the guidelines so trying to be respectful of that). Thanks so much, regards- Kevin

And thank you all for the responses. I've told the aquatic people at Pet Smart they should really start studying the info on both sites. Might help to pass on to their other customers. Not just for purchases- altho some of the "big box stores" don't carry some of those items, but rather just solid, reliable info vs hit or miss. I will use the Question/Answer topic thread for some of the other stuff I've got going on. Thanks again! K

Interesting, yes a new thread would be good and please include a GH reading if you can. I'm wondering why the WS is dissolving so fast.

You were OK in taking out the original, but I often leave in the original after 2/3 dissolved. As Devon noted, a before and after GH would help determine why it dissolved so fast, as 2 days is far from normal. Also knowing all filtration and filter media being used both during and prior to introduction of your Wonder Shell. Use of water from a home water softener should NEVER be used in conjunction with a Wonder Shell (or with fish for that matter). Reference: www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2006/12/how-do-fish-drink.html#softenerPlease consider starting a new thread in a discussion section so that other readers in the future might find your questions helpful. Ok. Will start new thread in Q&A, However, to answer your question, GH is 300+ (based on strips) and using tap, not soft. And water here is usually pretty hard (Valium deposits on hoses, aerators etc).
Will start new with some of that other info. Thank you

Hmmm, Valium might have made for a calm town.
So, how is Fishy doing?

Much better. He's back to ornery self. Finished 3 weeks of the medicated wondershells mid week so did tank clean and water change yesterday. Are you still leaving on trip? did you get your filter issues worked out? I have a couple questions on water paramenter, but will post under cichlid concerns to keep info together. Also thats where you already responded with some of that. Nice to hear from you--thank you. Kev
