I think we can find hate and misunderstanding everywhere. People see or hear something they are not used to and they start to judge. It's almost natural for people to act this way. Some people are just more patient and understanding through experience. The internet has made this difficult too, cause we come across so much we are not familiar with, so we just spew out nastiness. When people are not face to face, it's a whole different world.
Ameenah, I'm sorry about your families struggle with this. You must be a strong lady!
I'm also sorry about the sudden death. I've had this happen too and it just leaves you wondering why. I'm glad you can start treatment on the other Albino.

Good point Devon!
I know my daughter with Asbergers makes these Japanese Anime videos and is active on YouTube; she complains all the time that Russians are constantly harassing & making vile comments to her. I also know that from our logs the scams and the hacking attempts come for a few certain regions of the world in particular, so much so that we have blocked sales and website visits where possible from these regions. To me, this hacking is another form of bullying based on the reasons a friend who runs some servers for me has told me (I could go into detail, but would rather not).

I am sooooooo glad that this EA Forum does not have any "haters". I find the EA Forum a very comfortable place filled with such a variety of aquarists ready to share and help eachother. You guys/gals are sooooo awesome. ((((EA)))))

I am so glad that I have videos of my big tank posted here at the EA Forum. I miss my fishes (and cat-kids) but between my home security system and my tank blog I can at least watch them from afar!

Hello my EA Forum Family
I at my "other home" in Amman Jordan. Jordan is a Kingdom in the Middle East. I love it here so very much. Our home is 4 stories of marble. Family, culture, people, stores, etc. Picture the USA in the 1950s and add to that the technology of today. Children play outdoors here - not so in USA. Strangers offer up " Assalamu Alaikum" when passing on the streets. It costs about $3 to take a taxi from one end of the city to the other! The Palace of the Royals is right down the street. When you purchase your tv satellite, you take it home and connect it - never paying another dime for over 400 satellite tv stations! When you make a purchase at a store you are then invited to sit and have a cup of tea.
Driving is a bit different here unless you are accustomed to heavy traffic cities - round abouts are the most challenging to navigate. Street signs are in both Arabic and English.
Internet is pretty bad unless you are at Starbucks. At home our internet is via dial-up and is fairly fast at certain times of the day and non functioning at others.
Going to the doctor costs $1.00, dentist $3.00 for an extraction, prescriptions average $2 to $5. $1.00 Jordanian Dinar is equal to $0.070 US Dollar.
Jordan's most recent claim to fame was the Indiana Jones movie where a portion was filmed at the ancient Petra - the ancient city carved into rock mountains. Petra is about 1/2 day travel from our home.
If you have any questions about Jordan, let me know.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
I really like geography, history, and cultural studies, so I always appreciate reading of others travels or experiences. Petra has always intrigued me, and in fact is one of the places to visit on my bucket list!
Over the years of my aquarium maintenance, I have been in many homes of persons from places all over the globe, as well as Americans with many different life experiences, I have heard many of their interesting "stories" over the years. Examples such as an older gentleman who was a World War 1 veteran back in the late 1970s to an Egyptian lady who was always trying to "fatten me up" with lots of food while I was taking care of her daughters aquarium.

My aunts and uncles just visited the Holy Land earlier this year (they loved it!), but I don't think they made it to Jordan while they were out there. One of my uncles was baptized in the Jordan River while they were there, and the other one became a Christian about a month or so after they returned. Both of my aunts have been Christians for quite a few years now, and the uncle who got baptized in the Jordan became a Christian at the beginning of this year.

Yes Angleminx there are many religions of the Ibrahimic Lineage (some know the Prophet Ibrahim as Abriham). Thr Holy Land of Palestine is very rich in heritage for sure but sadly there has been an illegal occupation in Palestine for decades and the many historic sites have suffered terribly. I could go on and on about this issue but that would take volumes indeed - I used to do an internationally broadcast radio program about Palestine but after many death threats I cancelled the show. I do pray that Palestine will again be recognized as a State and will have peace in my lifetime.
Carl, when you get around to the Petra on your Bucket List let me know and I might be able to get you great prices and a taxi at your disposal. Jordan is rich with hospitality from people of all faiths and the land itself is rich with history.
Devon. Not sure about photos here in this forum, but perhaps I can email some to you when I am stateside.
I am always on the lookout for an LFS but have not seen even one in all the years I have been here. The only fish I see are for sale at fish markets and tend to be preserved on ice! Delicious by the way. Fish from the Arabian Gulf - not sure of the species names, we just say "sumak" which means fish in Arabic.

Carl, it is actually cheaper to fly round trip to Jordan than it is to fly to visit any of my daughters in various USA States - just another way Americans pay more for everything these days. One can usually fly round trip to Jordan for about $1,000 USD! Of course you'd need to search the "low fares" type websites but it is worth it.

I received a text message (on the Viber app) that the water in one of my smaller tanks looked "murkey". Not the kind of message I wanted since I am on the other side of the planet. I emailed the Aquarium Service Company and they were able to go to the house to check it out. I am still waiting to learn the cause but speculate either a power outage flipped a switch or the impeller at the base of my HOT Filter was "gunky" The impeller rarely needs to be cleaned as long as water is maintained correctly. I hope it was not a power outage inwhich the HOT lost its prime and burned out the motor. At the time of the text message all fish appeared fine. So many scenerios running in my brain as to the cause of the "murkyness". I cant imagine hoe "over worked" the experts like Carl get when provided with minimal info and plea for help in remedy. Henceforth, when I have tank "challenges" I will make a point to post all the details I can, to assist the experts in analysis and resolution.

Ameenah,
I hope what ever caused the problem turns out to be something minor! I know how helpless you must feel. I'll keep you and your fish in my prayers.

Good news! The HOT Filter on my smaller tank was able to be remedied by the tank cleaning service. The issue was the impeller in the bottom of the HOT. Yeah!!! I was so relieved to learn that all tanks are functioning correctly now. Whew.
I sincerely hope that there will be some new forum members from my town by the time I come back to Jordan again next year. I know I would feel better about leaving my tanks in the care of a fellow EA Forum member. Again this is due to the great membership here and a sense of family.

Hello Everyone,
We got back to the USA a couple days ago and the jet lag & time zone changes are settling in. Our cat-kids are sooooo glad we are back - they dont like it when we leave. The fishes are doing fine - some of the Oscars are now at the 7-inch mark, while others are just around the 4-inch mark. The Plecostamus is now at 11-inches. I guess some just grow slower than others. We only lost 1 Golden Gourami from the Big Tank - apparently it managed to jump out. I will upload images later today.

Welcome home!
And many thanks to the "Fish Gods" for watching over your fish.
Yes, fish do grow at different rates....just like people (grin). I have one female Kamaka who is the same size she was three years ago (same size as two new ones I bought this summer). I have named her Leah as I had a co-worker named Leah who was just over 4 ft tall (I know less than 5 feet). I have another female - full grown when I purchased her - who is a big as some my Boesemani and turquoise rainbows (4 inches or so long -- some Boesemani rainbows are 5 inches long now).
Some plecos can get huge. I only buy the ones that stay small.
Cheers,
Judy

Hi Judy and thank you for the welcome. True fish do grow at their very own special rates; but, both of my Red Albino Oscars were from the same hatch from the same breeder and delivered together - odd that now one is 7-inches while the other is about 4-inches. While both Lemon Yellow Oscars were from the same hatch at a different breeder they both are only about 4-inches now. And my Tiger, Lutino, and Albino were from a local LFS months earlier did grow at different rates but now are even at 7-inches too. Yes there are hundreds of species of Plecostamus, I have a few from a hatch I bred in my home who max at 5-inches, but in the Big Tank I opted for a larger species who will top out at 2-feet. Fun, fun, fun!
