Your Platinum Koi is beautiful! In fact all your fish look great. It appears you have a mix of Koi & Shubunkin if I am correct? Carl Only one shubunkin left, unless of course they have the capability to interbreed with the koi. I have no idea on that one. The rest of the comets, shubunkins, and goldfish have all been sold.

oh wow. I wasn't thinking you had so many. And I thought my pleco was big Thanks for showing us. Yeah, to give you an idea, that platinum koi is in the 2nd "tier" as far as size is concerned. In the first picture you can kind of see his size compared to my forearms. In the 2nd picture, that's him in the upper right and you can see him next to the fish we call Big Momma (the similar looking one in the middle is Big Daddy). Those two are gigantic - over 2 feet long and a good 10" from dorsal fin to anal fin. Here in this pic you can see several of our other "tier 2" fish size-wise. The smoky black koi in dead center is my fish, Lucifer. To the right is Silverstreak (the Platinum), Gorbachev (he's all white with an orange splotch on his head), and Daisy (yellow head and spots). What's really funny is that the small orange and black koi in the top center, next to the big red and white goldfish is Big Momma and Big Daddy's baby. We call him Big Baby (of course) and he's the fish that I've got an offer for $100 on. 3 years later and he's 16" long now!

I guess these would be trophy fish, something people hope their koi grow into. $100 would be cheap, I know these bigger koi go for much more. You keep surprising me, cause I thought the platinum koi would have been the biggest, but the others are larger! Thanks for showing. What size pond are these kept in?

Hehehe...the platinum might be the 5th or 6th largest fish in the pond! $100 is pretty fair for 16" in my opinion. But you are right, the bigger ones are trophy fish. The platinum for example - I've found similar fish on eBay for $800-$1000. The pond is only about 1400 gallons but it's nearly 4 feet deep. It's quite mature at this point, it was originally installed in 2003 and some of the fish were purchases at that time. I'd say it's possible some of the fish are 15-20 years old at this point.

Wow, must be nice to look back over ten years and see all that hard work pay off. If you feel up to it, you should share a picture of the whole pond. I'm sure you have in the past, I just have never seen it I got a thread together for my 40 gallon I put together recently. Check it out if you want too. everythingaquatic.proboards.com/thread/3516/40-gallon-upgrade
