Funny you would describe them as "prehistoric", when I had my first aquarium in the 60s I saw a Plecostomus and "had to have one" as I thought they looked prehistoric and I told my Mom I had to get one of these fish!

OK John/8 would like to know how you punched that hole in the bottom of the flower pot? With out breaking the whole pot? Great looking fish too! Thank you, he is a handsome fellow, isn't he? I like Mr. Ed, a lot. Don't see him too much, he is usually buried in the sand.
First you soak the flower pot overnight so it is saturated with water (doesn't crack down the side then). Then get a small nail set and a small hammer and start close to the existing hole (1/8 to 1/4"). Put the tip of the nail set on the flower pot and just tap until it chips the pot away. The chips fall down inside the pot (put down some old newspaper, easier to clean up) and you can just chip away until the hole is as big as you want it. I always smooth out the edges with a rat tailed file so the fish don't injure themselves going in and out.
To close up the wide end of the pot (and make a nice dark cave), get a clay saucer the same diameter as the top of the pot and use aquarium silicone to stick them together. Plecos love them, as do many cichlids.

Nice picture 8! I like the pleco's golden coloration. Personally, I like pleco when their sail (dorse fin) is held high or watching them suck on the glass. lol When ethey die though and I ahve to net them, it crreps me out much more than normal fish. Also putting my hands in a tank with one seems to make me nervous. Nice fish though.
