Although this post was last year.I did get my decoy and works like a charm . I haven't seen the blue herron since. But some how I still get fish missing.. Not sure why. One day I noticed my fountain getting slow so I took my filter out to clean it and to remove anything that maybe blocking it. well to my surprise I found Two big fish, sucked to the filtered, dead of course but the filter had sucked them in so hard their skin was stuck to the mesh, eye balls and all!. I don't know how that happened they were pretty big fish. and I just have noticed the amount getting smaller. I have a net over it so I cant see how anything is getting in...

Maybe your pump has too strong an inlet? What is your GPH? Another suggestion from our Pond Article is to place your pump in a milk crate, bucket or simply buried in volcanic rock. This both protects fish from the suction (especially fry) and the protect the pump impeller from debris See this picture: Carl

It's like 3600. GPH . Water clarity is fantastic, although soon the heat will bring the algea again. But I do have UV Sterilizer but I havent had the chance to see it in action yet with the heat in summer. My water was really green when i first bought it, with in 2 days... crystal clear.. and ever since. But it also became cold and we all know algea dies in the winter, So I have yet to see how good it will be. I do have the filter in a big crate but it has holes in it (intentionally) and they swim in it under the lid part. I will try and take a picture of it when I get home this evening and see if I cant post it. it was made for me with a lot of "air conditioner mesh" what ever its called. It does great to catch all the debris, dirt , leaves that may blow in. and keep my filter running good. I clean it out in the summer probably about every two weeks. thats about how long it takes to get dirty. (the mesh stuff) I have had it now for two years, I just can't think of a reason they would have gotten pulled to it like that. (freakish accident)

360 gph is very slow for most pond circulation pumpsThis would not be strong enough to pull in an average pond goldfish or koi, maybe only babys (fry). My guess is these fish were weak or sick from some other cause. Make sure to change your UV Bulb prior to the weather really warms up Carl

Your pond looks awesome. It's a lot warmer where you are than it is here. (By the way, I'm in Charlotte often for work, I love it there.)

Love the layout of your pond Cashay! With the rocks on the sides and waterfall, it must look gorgeous in summer when the plants have grown out. Sorry to hear about your fish. That must have been a very sad and unwelcome surprise. Renee

I think I have figured out the problem with loosing my fish, I just had to put more mesh stuff in it so the fish could not get into the holes. No more dead fish! yeah
