so i was curious if anyone has ever kept a wild yellow bullhead catfish in there aquariums? if so, does anyone know the correct water conditions for them?
i caught this baby bullhead the other day and had a spare tank already cycled ready for stocking and decided i might as well bring him home with me and see if i cant grow it out. ive attempted google search and got minimal information on care. but did see proof that they can be housed in the aquarium setting. im just not sure if my water is at the right levels.
thank you in advance,
James

I have had customers (that I took care of their aquarium) that have kept Bullhead catfish, but not this exact species. They are not demanding fish as per exacting water conditions, but they do need a lot of space and are destructive to the aquarium decor. This website has a bit of info: archive.chesapeakebay.net/catfish.htmSince these are from Chesapeake Bay, this web site may help more with parameters. thanks carl, i have been monitering it over night. he may still be in shock from the removal of the hook and clean water i have in my tank. been pretty dormant on the bottom and un interested in the earthworms i threw in there for him. i think in time he will make himself home. if i get him to grow out i will make a detailed profile on the species so you can share it with future catfish keepers.

Bullheads in the aquarium are generally solitary...literally. They'll eat EVERY OTHER LIVING THING in the tank. My cousin's husband has 1 and the only thing he didn't eat was the turtle.

Bullheads and some others like channel catfish are scavengers and will eat just about anything. But like all catfish, if presented with live food, they definitely will eat it first.
