it's 10gal planted. I always liked UG filters when I was a kid and didn't do the proper research so I went with it and now have plant root headaches It's ok though everything's working well now. Just added a way oversized homebuilt canister filter (can't see it in the picture). Voila

I know ... small tank big headache but the little woman has been the grim reaper of goldfish for 25yrs. (y'know the type ... Oh we just put the fish in a bowl and feed the heck out of it ... lalala ... waaahhhhhhh my goldfish died! Let's go buy another one) I had to wade back into the aquarium thing slowly. The tank fits on our mantelpiece. Apparently, Feng Shui required some water element there. So, no-brainer. AND she now realizes that fish can survive more than a month if properly cared for. Hoping for a big tank in my den by next spring...

Very nice looking tank, actually if you look at the picture in an enlarged view, you would never guess it is a 10 gallon tank as you have it set up more like a larger tank, plus the smaller fish make it look roomier! As for under gravel filters, I know many places will think you are nuts or even "flame" you in their forums for having one (I have been flamed for suggesting that fish can be kept with UG filters). I set up a large restaurant (the Bahooka Restaurant) in Southern California with over 100 customized UG Filters in mostly 100 gallon plus aquariums (the tubing came up from the bottom so as to hide the tubing and only have bubbles coming up). These did quite well providing good maintenance, feeding and water changes. Do I recommend these filters; no especially for persons given to lazy aquarium care and use of poor quality fish food, etc. (for reasons such as DOC accumulation), however can you keep a healthy tank with them, yes (these filters even have tend to have less issues with Aeromonas provided the area under the plates are kept clean). Thanks for the shot in the arm, Carl The tank isn't old enough to have accumulated muln under the plates, yet. Now that I've convinced my (much) better half that fish are neat pets, I'm hoping to move the entire community to ... maybe a 40 to 50 gallon tank in a few months' time. Hopefully, I'll then convert the 10 gal tank to mollies. Just have to figure out how to keep mollies and plants together. But that's tomorrow's problem.
