Interesting thread about starting over, which I am doing with a 30 gallon cube with a Ecco 2236.
I have been reading the Aquarium Cleaning, Aquarium Disease Prevention and Aquarium-Pond Answers papers.
I have decided to empty the tank of the water and refill with new water and run bleach through the tank and filter to kill off any uglies.
Will the chlorine bleach eradicate all possible uglies in the sand substrate? Would I need to stir the sand up a few times, the day bleach is added?
Thanks in advance.

I generally circulate the water through the sand/gravel by whatever means possible (such as stirring) so as to make sure that all pathogens are completely eradicated. Carl

Thanks for the info, I do not want to miss one little ugly.
I bleached earlier, no foaming so at least not a lot of organic stuff. But a lot of small white and brownish things resting on top of the sand. I saw one or two floating in the tank, but wow there was more then I thought. I will try to find magnifying glass to try to identify.
Right now I am let the bleach run its course tonight, tomorrow I will do a 100% water change, stir up the sand and add bleach again and see what happens.
