as some of you may know i from reading through my tank blogs i have 2 african cichlids currently and they are running low on food. i have been feeding them the best food i could find at petsmart, omega one natural protien formula cichlid flakes. but im sure theres better somewhere and thats where im asking this question? what fish food do you use for your african cichlids? spirulina is a must! whole fish meal is also a must!
if you can give me your best bang for your buck for a really high quality product i would really appreciate it. eve if you feel this needs to be moved to a different section feel free. i think this is a great topic and everyone should be able to put down there best product and opinion on it.[/b][/color]

There are many good basic diets out there & many not so good, but unfortunately still popular often for reasons such as "my fish have done well for years on this stuff" (which is about the same as feeding your kids nothing but McDonalds all their life and stating this). I might add that shrimp meals and other sources of Carotenoids are helpful We have a list going in this article: Fish NutritionAny notes from this thread can be added in the recommended foods section. I always feed a variety of foods. I don't feed the same thing everyday. I feed HBH super soft spirulina pellets, omega cichlid, HBH super soft krill pellets and frozen spirulina brine shrimp and a few other frozen foods. All of my fish are omnivores with most being carnivores.

thanks guyz i think mine are omnivores but mostly on the herbivore side. but ill check out that other thread. i would really like to feed multiple foods but with todays economy ive been forced to just feed 1 food to my cichlids and 1 food to my tropical community. luckily for me i have similar species of cichlid with very similar diets so i can get away with doing so i also feed freeze dried bloodworms as treats usually right after a water change or a rearrangement of decor for a treat.

I feed the same proust to all my fish - top feeders lke the giant danios, gouramis, and silver hatchets prefer the flake as they don't venture down to the bottom
