Thanks for the great article Bill. Actually my rams are showing some of the signs he is talking about. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll spawn.

They have been flashing their colors a lot and keep picking at this one stone in the aquarium. Also Minnie's belly is turning red and both of them suddenly have visible vents. I really didn't think that they would pair up since it's very uncommon for them to pair up when you just put two fish together in tank but they do act like a pair quite a bit. They are almost always together and if one suddenly realizes that the other has swum away it will zoom over to rejoin the other. I guess if they so decide to spawn I'll have to set up the ten gallon to raise the fry in. That if of course supposing that the eggs are fertile and the cories don't eat everything. I think I might put in a tank divider to keep the cories out if they do lay eggs to give things the chance to hatch without ravenous cories entering the mix.

The red belly on your female is definitely a sign of a female Ram Cichlid that is ready to breed. My thoughts on German Ram Cichlids and breeding is that tow aspects are the most difficult: *Obtaining healthy stock to begin with (you have already jumped this hurdle IMO) * Raising of the fry In my experience the breeding aspect is easy in a healthy tank with healthy stock, the step of raising of the fry is the next hurdle IMO. Hi Folks,
Right now, I have approx. 30 one-month old German Blue Rams. These are the first fish that I have ever successfully bred. The first two spawns were unsuccessful but I learned from my mistakes. This is a hobby that I share with my wife and we are both pleased to have got this far. Carl, you are spot on - the biggest problem that we had to overcome was feeding some of the smallest fry mouths in the hobby!
