ok great thanks carl. as for mechanical, i do have 3 layers of sheet floss (not sure what its actually called) filter the water before it hits the Vrock. although i was thinking of put a pre-filter on the outgoing pump as i notice some detris/debris makes it though. would a pre- fitler be the same iidea as a sponge? i got a quiet one pump cant remember the model though. Yes a Prefilter would be the same. Since your tank is large, I would consider a larger pre-filter than the standard Filter Max pre-filters. The sponge is just a good idea all around as a prefilter or on the outtake. Its the massive amount of pores that hold a real good amount of good bacteria. Just like v-rock.
