Does anyone keep a betta in one of those big brandy snifters? I've had one of these in the laundry room for over a year now, I can't think of anything else to do with it.

I have had customers that had me put a betta in a brandy snifter on their desks. I added a small Wonder Shell to improve water quality between water changes.
I also would occasionally add a plant with a healthy root structure to help with water quality as well (not to feed the betta as a really lame fad several years back had persons convinced off)

Yeah, filtration is something I would want to work on. I don't want to do water changes every day. Every 2 or 3 days I can handle. It'd be nice to find a super small sponge filter that I've seen advertised in TFH. I'd definitely put a small anubias or some java fern in there too.
What about a lid? My VT doesn't seem to be a very jumpy guy, but my CT was. Are some types of bettas more apt to jump than others or is it just a personality thing?

Well, I found a cute little filter at the lfs on Saturday. I bought it, went home and started to clean out the brandy snifter. BUT, I was stupid and was holding it near the top and it broke! Fortunately, I only ended up with 1 minor cut. So no new bettas for me...

Steph...some how I missed this! (Well I know how...been working my rear off on the 2009 IBC Convention) I keep Betta in a 1.8g (not quite a 2g) Brandy Sniffer from the Walmart home decor department for $9.99 (these are thicker glass then the ones from LFS)..no filter..no gravel..live Java Fern and Java Moss..and water (salt added of course). I change the water about every 3 days or 1x a week (I keep 4g of water made up at all times). I dump everything (fish included) into a bucket..I wipe out the tank with the J.Moss and rinse the tank out with the original water to maintain the bacteria. Just be sure and rinse the plants out in that same water also. Once the tank is clean..add new water and then the plants and the fish (float him of course). You can also add a little of the "old" water back in if you need to. A friend had one that sounds like the one you had...very thin glass...her's broke on me too! I was lucky that I did not get cut...if I had...it would have sliced my wrist open! I like the Walmart decor ones the best!!! IF you get a new one Lori

The one I had was from Michael's. It did cut my wrist when it broke, but fortunately, it wasn't very deep. Thanks for the tip on where to get a new one. If I ever think of a perfect to spot to put one, I'll know where to get a new sturdier one!
