I was thinking of using the Onyx Sand to help out with my KH instability. Would you recommend maybe using 1/2 Onyx Sand and 1/2 Flourite Black Sand for the "base" for the plants, or to not use the Onyx Sand at all? I'm going with an approximate 4cm base, with the #3 gravel on top. I'm going to use the sand more for around the plant roots, but I'm not sure exactly where I'm going to situate the plants when I move them, so I was planning to add a little sand to the entire bottom, too. Unless you are planning toi keep fish that prefer higher carbonates/alkalinity (KH), I would recommend Flourite. Otherwise just use the Onyx Sand around the plant roots. This would likley not cuase to much rise in alkalinity, while still helping with your KH stability Carl

I just used regular sand that I picked up from PetCo. Never intended on managing my KH with it. I put the layer on the entire bottom like 1/2-1 inch deep just for the roots.
