Well I hooked up the new Eheim filter... Took me almost two hours to put it together. Hard to do with bum shoulder Then get it all set up and it won't work Fiddled with it another hour, goldfish kind of freaking out... Finally found a little red lever that had to be pulled...Go figure! Hooked it up Wed. Checked water Thursday nitrIte .50 ammonia .25. Changed 12 gals of water. Didn't change it at all. Checked this morning, ammonia 0, nitrIte 1.0 So looks like another water change for today...Yippee

Very nice. Like Carl said, your tank does look very clean. Good job on that. Your fish are very large, a good sign you're taking good care of them.
Sorry if this is off-topic but I wonder why my goldfish aren't bigger by now. They seem to grow slowly (though faster than when they were in the 10 gallons) in the 40 gallon even though water conditions are very good and I do maintance on their tank every week. The biggest 3 are about 3 1/2 inches. They were about 2 1/2 to 2.75 inches before I put them in in August or September. The others were under 2 inches when I put them in. Now the smallest fish is about 2 inches. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong with them but their growth seems pretty slow. There is 8 of them in there, still overcrowded but a farcry from the 2 ten gallons they were in.
How long have you had your goldfish Demfish and how big were they when you got them? I hope I'm not doing anything wrong with mine. They seem to be growing too slow for the size tank they're in.

Renee....this could be alot of things but i doubt it. I would say genetics are the biggest thing here. I`m not sure if demfish mentioned a size....but it is probably the video that made them look bigger. bet they arent much bigger than yours. if you want big ones....keep strictly koi or comets. If i were you i`d be thankful they are growing slowly. a 40 gallon is way bigger than what you had but still isnt huge. i`d try to keep them at this size. remember, bigger fish= bigger waste. i know you feed well and keep water in great condition so this i feel is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the video. I swear I could watch the white one all day, what a lovely tail! This is such a pretty tank, I enjoy looking at it.
Sorry about the shoulder giving you such trouble. It stinks when you're all busted up and what you're used to doing easily is suddenly a huge pain, literally! I really hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks guys. My goldfish are comets, (feeders actually). I took a look at them yesterday and they might be going 3.75 inches soon so and my small fish Nemo is going through a growth splurt. I guess there is nothing to worry about. At least they are growing which is a sign they are doing well.
What I can do to help my fish is get my aquarium light going again for them. My mom was complaining about it and the mesh top I had over the tank was starting to rust and now with the plastic top over it, it Carl told me not as much light would get through as much. I think I'm going to find a new top or put aquarium sealent on the mesh top to stop the rust. Hopefully my mom will not complain too much about it. That's one way I can improve the conditions for my fish.
I am not worried about them growing fast. I want them to have the best life possible and if growing fast is a sign of health, I will try to do that. Thanks for the help Bill.
I hope you feel better as well Demfish. I hope your shoulder pain goes away. Good luck with your goldies! They look great!

Thanks people! Their my favorites, I know a lot of people don't keep Goldy's. But I sure like them, they have their own little pecking order, will let me pet them, when I'm changing water, Give me a shower every morning when I feed them ;D What more do I need? Heres a small video of my girl Fred, now mind you this is a spinach leaf, she has hogged it all down except the stem. The rest is in her mouth, did I say anything about being pigs?

lol She looks like she bit off more than she could chew. My goldfish are funny as well. Yesterday morning, I put my hand in to feed my fish and one of the goldfish kept trying to nibble on my finger to get the food but ended up taking in a lot of air instead. The result is I got lots of bubbles from my goldfish blasted onto my finger as I fed them. One of my favorite goldfish, Wickren, begs super fast and opens it's mouth wide as if trying to nibble on my finger to say it wants food when I come near the tank. He'd also be the first to go to my finger when I feed them. They don't let me pet them yet but when I'm changing the water or vaccumming the tank, I sometimes get startled when a slimy mouth nibbles at my hand or arm. Very cute and also very hardy although they used to be feeders before I adopted them.

Nice pictures. Are they both black moores? If Fred spawn like last year, maybe she will do it with your new goldfish Echo. Then you would have pure black moore fry if both are moores.
