sorry Curtis - just when my faith in someone actually having luck w/ GBRs was redtored, you get slammed bigtime! I have had no luck w/ them, but I really want to try again - was even contemplating having you sell me some when you're ready - keep trying my friend and good luck - am confused about the sudden amonia spike.....wonder what could have attributed it to that....where do you keep your pH btw?

Hi All Thanks for condolences as of today a total loss. At the time I didn't have any hornwort in the tank. I am guessing about the amonia but it was simular to other mishaps I have had in a bare tank with only a sponge filter. I am thinking that the amonia spike was caused by a bit of overfeeding of BBS (unfortunately rams aren't a voracious feeders as Bettas are at that size) and adding a new unseasoned HOB filter to the tank. I will try try try again after I find a female x2 or more so male has plenty of work. LOL Rams are just rams win a few lose a lot useually 2-3 spawns to every succeseful one.
Sincerely Curtis

good luck w/ your fry! still might be interested when they're older - you never mentioned where you keep your pH - rams are pretty sensative to clean water, you're probably right about the filter being unseasoned

Sorry to hear that Curtis. I wish you luck with getting the ammonia under control. Prime can be added for detoxifying ammonia. good luck!
