5 of my Celestial Pearl Danios have disappeared over the last few weeks. The water parameters are perfect and there is no sign of illness anywhere. I've looked under rocks and in the filter and can't find any trace of them. They're so small though, they probably decomposed or whatever pretty quickly.
I did notice a couple of males sparring a while back. I wonder if one of the 2 left is a bully and has picked off the others. These remaining 2 were the biggest of the 7... so maybe that has something to do with it. I am sad though. I liked these guys!

I hate it when you loose a fish and don't know what happened! I came in this morning and found a spine in the tank...missing a dwarf flame gourami. Sorry your fishies are gone

Although I have no experience with these beautiful Danios, this would have to be my guess. These fish are so small, it would not take long for them to decompose. I am sorry to read this, as I know how proud you are of these fish, but I have to doubt you did anything wrong in care. I would keep an eye on the survivors for even the slightest potential problem/symptom just in case there is a disease problem. Carl

Could they have been eaten by another fish? What other fish do you have in there and how long are they?

like already posted....bullying is a very big possibility. when these fish die , they as already stated, decompose quickly. as well as this....all the other fish will have a taste of their buddy. when a fish dies of stress, they usually hide quite well and the decomposition process seldom takes more than 72 hours or so...

I'm sorry that you lost some of your gorgeous danios. Maybe you do have a bully, that has happened to me. I guess even among the tiny varieties of fish you can get a homicidal individual.

I've got white clouds in there, and I've seen them chase the surviving danios around occasionally, so I'm thinking they might have been the culprits. The 2 danios that are left are the biggest ones. They're still only half the size of the white clouds, but they must be big enough. I haven't seen any nipped fins or anything, maybe the little danios just got too stressed. Sally, one of my female bettas, is in there as well, but I have never seen her act aggressive toward the danios at all.
I'll have to try species only next time. Or maybe CPD's and cherry shrimp. That might be ok.
