good evening all. the crapiest thing that could have happened just did. my pride and joy passed on today. my vieja synspila died today.
went to the rec room to feed my guys and he was floating. there was a blown breaker. all power was out and the disolved oxygen was only 2 ppm. no filter, no powerhead, nothing. all the fry and the rest of the fish survived.....but my pride and joy is gone.i am bummed....but he was also bigger than i thought.....he weighed in at near 2 pounds. i was with him 20 hours ago...just before bed last night...everything was fine.....arrrrrghhhhhh!!!!!!

I am so sorry, that is so sad. May he rest in peace, poor guy. I'm glad that at least the other fish made it but it still totally sucks that you lost your favorite.

am really sorry Billy - I know how proud you were to have him - he was an awesomly beautiful fish! my suggestion, althoug late my friend, is to purchase a high end surge protection box w/ battery backup - I have one for my computer and one that feeds 2 out of 4 tanks - I know hindsight is 20/20, but it could prevent future loss - this is not the 1st time you've lost power.......again, sorry my friend

So sorry to hear that Bill. I'm sure he enjoyed his time with you. Plus, knowing you Bill, you gave him the best possible care of almost anyone out there. Just be thankful all the other fish are ok. You did the best you could and everyone knows it.

seems like Eve is going to be without power all day tomorrow - posted this to her - thought maybe it would help for everyone to know.... "if you have an extra car battery laying around, charged of course, you can buy a cheap invertor/convertor from 12 volts to 110 at like KMart for $20-$30 just to run your pumps.....just a thought.... better than blowing through a straw all day"

I wonder how long that would last? Being in hurricane country that is something to consider.
