has anyone ever moved a 10 gallon tank from one location to another intact? like sliding it onto a baord so the bottom wouls still be supported - I have to move one 8' - I plan on taking the fish out 1st for sure and maybe 1/2 the water but tearing the whole thing down seems like a lot of work - any input? thanks

I just moved my 10 gallon fry tank last week. I even left the babies in it. I drained down till just a couple inches of water remained then just pick it up and moved it very gently. It was fine. You don't have to tear the whole thing down...The good thing with glass tanks is they don't require the same support on the bottom as acrylic tanks do.

lol, i constantly moved my 10's around you can leave as much as 3-4 inch water in there without any probs you can also leave the fish in there as well, no problem at all
just make sure you pick it up at both sides at the sime time, this will distribute the weight evenly
i sometimes would even pick it up just one side for about an inch, slide it so i could get my hand into the other side, no problem either

Plus, if you're worried about changing too much of the water at a time you could just siphon the tank water into buckets and then put the old tank water back in once you were done. That's what we did when we needed to move our big 45g at the old house. If you're planning on taking the fish out anyway I say take almost all of the water out and save the back strain. Good luck, be careful! lol

I have moved 10 gallons with water. I put watr into bucktes and dump some of the water. Then I gently pick it up and place it wherever I am putting it. Then I just readd the water from the buckets and any water I dumped. And there you go, the tank is nicely settled with no problems whatsoever!
