Hi, back again. Hope everyone is doing fine. How long, generally speaking, should my lights be on every day? I have fish, live rock, polyps and 2 anemones. My live rock seems to be losing its color...is lighting a factor? Or am I just hoping it's that simple ?

Neil, I don't keep SW but I bet you find the answer if you go to the home page and go to the marine section - there's more articles than you could ask for! there's also a lighting section that would most definitely answer your question - lots of info there - Carl wrote most, if not ALL of the articles

the secret for light time is to produce a day and night cycle....12 hours on and 12 off is a good start unless algae is a problem or you keep alot of nocturnal critters....and as john mentioned....there will be ALOT of info in Carl`s articles.

the light cycle really depends on what kind of lights you're using
however if you have just one single color you would keep it 12/12
if you have blue and white
you would keep the blue on for 12 and the white for 10 whereas you would turn on the blue an hour before the white come on, and off an hour later once the white ones have turned off
if you have even a moonlight as well, then that would be turned on, once the blue ones go out, and will be turned off when the blue ones go on
