please be aware that a new hood will most likely come w/ a light - I have yet to be able to find them seperately and the cost isn't pretty.....they want $50 for a plastic lid for my 30" long (comes w/ a light I don't need)

Maybe Craigslist would have something that would work for you?

Great idea Babygeige. Try Craiglist. They have used fish things for a fraction of what you would pay at a petstore. There's plenty of people selling good quality used fish equipment there.

I can totally sympathize I broke my tank lid last week and had to go buy a new hood assembly that had the light which I didn't need. Is the part you broke solid glass? You might be able to go to glass shop and have another piece cut that would work.

I found some stuff on Craiglist in Illinois. It's not as much as I can find under Michigan but there is something. If you're having trouble navigating Craigslist, after typing in craigslits.com, select your state, then your county, look under the heading "Community" and click on pets, or clcik "General" under the heading "Community" and select pest from the menu. Just type in fish or aquarium hood after that. Here's some, unfortunately not much though. bn.craigslist.org/search/pet?query=aquariumAlso, if a person is selling a tank and hood, you can email them to just ask to buy the hood. And if that doesn't work, try ebay.com , half.com, or amazan.com. They should have much more for sale. Good luck! Renee

i would say the best thing to do is to get the glass cut. it should be pretty inexpensive. i wouldnt recommend plexi tho....plexi quickly absorbs moisture and warps.....it gets ugly fast....

so i went to the local fish store instead of petsmart cuz petsmart couldnt order me a new hood and wouldnt let me buy one off the aqaurium.
so i orderd the hood for 22 dollars.
and im just going to vent. what happens when a pet smart employee accidently drops a hood thats on a tank and it breaks. they would then have to order a new one.
they told me that they cant sell me an individual hood because they dont sell them.
and then when i asked for one that was on the same tank i have they said they cant sell it to me because the tank comes with the hood.
soo what exactly happens when they break a hood and then cant sell the tank cuz it doesnt have a hood?
soo i finally got a hood replaced i have to pick it up on tuesday. now to find a light strip. i think walmart has them for cheaper than anyone else.

well if that happens, they just sell the tank cheaper without the hood as simple as that
and $22 for a 28 gallon bowfront is cheap

Sorry this has been such a huge pain. Mine was an odd size too so I had to buy the next biggest size and trim it down with tinsnips. Super fun, let me tell you. I'm glad you finally got this sorted out.

the hood that i picked up today did not fit. soo i have to take it back and order a new one. so right now i have a light rigged up to the tank with some planks taped where the hood would be. this is soo frustrating.
