so he wasnt really doing good last night he was just kinda sittin in the corner by himself not really swimming. turns out i was right to be concerned about my lil guy, he was either sick or the tank was over crowded. but anyway when i turned the light on this morning he was belly up behind the piler. i did my normal count of all of my fish and found it odd that he was no where to be found. so i search harder to find him, and when i did thats where i found him behind the piler with his belly up. im guessing he died some where between 3am to 6am. so i pulled him out of the tank and he was still flexabile. nothing slimy on him. just normal i think he just died because it couldnt have been long with him dieing if he was still belly up in the bottom of the tank. the reason why i say that is because he wasnt stiff when i got him out of the tank. so yea. my lil guy died and it was a valentines day gift from boyfriend. but he did tell me that he was going to get me more to replace my lil guy... but still really bummed that he died. he looked healthy so i dunno really why he would die. only strange thing is my boyfriend's fish (baby albino catfish same size as mine) are doing just fine and we bought the fish the same day and at the same pet store.

its ok i just don't fully understand why he died. i mean i dunno if it was from stress or from the tank being over crowded. i wish i understood why he died all the sudden. its frustrating. and why didn't the other two die?(not that i want them to)i just don't get it. he seemed to look healthy he just wasn't swimming around. so if anyone really could try and explain to me why my lil guy passed away would be helpful. it's very sad that he passed away knowing that he was a valentine's day gift

It's hard when they just up and die on you for no obvious reason. It happens to everyone. It could have been stress from over crowding, or he just may have been weak to begin with. Sorry for your loss!

Yea I'm thinking it could have been both. the stress from the over crowding and from him being so small. it just really sucks. i was hoping that he would have eventually came outta of it and tried to group with the other cory's, or him at least trying to swim around the tank and be a little be more active. o well i guess ill just have to start over with another and hope this one doesn't die like he did

sorry to hear that unfortunately that is often that way i lost many fish due to just transport in a matter of 48 hours usually it happens because of the stress we're putting them through they're netted from the petstore tank into a bag, then transported home, then hopefully acclimated correctly (which unfortunately to 90% does not happen), and then in the tank so they're absolutely really stressed through all this and weak because of it

ya he was fine for the first night it was day 2 when it was a sudden drastic change but it didnt look like stress more like just being lazy. but i also forgot that if a fish dies within 14 days you can get a refund but i already flushed him after i realized it. so im out of 4 dollars but im gonna waite to replace him until after the big tank cycles and then get a decent shoal of them possibly 4 or 5 to go with my already 3 albinos.

not to seem disrespectful here so please don't take it the wrong way, I assume you know the right way to acclimate a new fish to a tank? means a lot to do it right.....hope I'm not stepping on any toes here....

yes sir i do. i always add my water to the bag soo the ph will slowly adjust and then let it sit in the tank for about an hour and scoop the lil guyz out and let them swim off on there own.

You did the right thing in acclimating him. Sometimes fish just die on you, for no discernible reason. I think it has happened to all of us. Especially the first month or so seems to be really touchy. Everyone has to adjust and find their little niche in the tank and some just don't make it even though you've done everything right and they look really healthy and are eating and acting pretty normal. I lost a really nice angelicus loach a few weeks ago after he'd been in the tank for three weeks and seemed to be doing great. One day he was fine and seemed as healthy as possible and the next day he was dead in the tank for no apparent reason. I'm sorry that your fish died. I know that is always upsetting.

ya it was definately a suprise and a sad one at that.
but it is normal soo we will have to try again. i think if we get a shoal and put them in the bigger tank after its cycled we will have much better luck.

Sorry your fish died Corycat woman. I too have had this happen. All you can do is guess and try your hardest to figure out what's wrong. You did your best. I hope you have better luck in the future.
