I wish I could take credit for inventing this myself, but I cannot. After my recent episode with the Zebra Obliqeudin spitting her eggs out in the net and having a few other Haps do this to me in the past, I realized, I should look into one of these in case this occurs again. What I like about this is there is some written instruction and pictures of what you should be doing. This is the best one I could find out there. While not that many of us in this forum really need one of these, anyone keeping mouth brooding and even possibly substrate spawning cichlids should find this useful. Over time, as I get some experience doing this, I may come up with my own method and parts. I may have figured out one thing I couldn't before. I've seen some tumbler set ups where there was mesh at the top of the tube where the hose came in. I'd first wondered, with air being bouyant, why the bubbles didn't just flow back out the top of the mesh. If the cap is enclosed and in the tube closed off, the air has no choice but to go downwards. However, this leads me to another mystery. Why are the eggs then not trapped against the mesh at the end of the tube as air flow would be going downwards. The idea and goal here would be having the eggs floating softly just off the surface of the mesh to simulate what a mouthbrooding female does. I'll work on figuring this one out later. www.sydneycichlid.com/egg-tumbler.htm

Excellent idea Jon, the second screen near the upper end makes sense as I was not picturing this aspect when you told me of this by phone. Carl

Thanks for the image post and the package yesterday Carl. Was good timed and handy, out of shells!! I'm picking up a pair of sub adult female Venustus tomorrow, and I talked with Tony about egg tumblers. He's going to show me how he makes his and I'll probably do my own write up on this.
I think it's worth keeping on this subject, there probably are 100's of different various ways to make one of these, so if other people have a different method/part listings, they should really post theirs as well.
