Male bettas tend to do that. If at all possible add a lid to their tank. I had one particular male that was so bad about it that he would jump through the very small opening at the back of the tank where the filter hung. It got so bad that I had to put cheese cloth over the opening at the back of the tank. I'm sorry that your new fish jumped out! These guys are really pretty.

Curtis...PK are BAD about jumping. Most breeders will use Plastic Canvas (Walmart in the craft department) to cover the tanks.
These fish are *drools* beautiful!!!

Well Folks I lost another one this time a female got loose from her pin and killed the male I was trying to breed her with. So Now I am only left with the one in the first pic and he won't build a bubble nest for some reason . I am going to ask the guy I got them from if he has any more I have 4 sibling females I need another male at least.

Thanks Carl and Murdock. I think I have got a replacement in the works. I think DA DUMB A_ _ heard me use his name and got insulted ;D He is now building a nest OR maybe its because i changed separtation container to a 1 qt jar floating in tank instead of a pregnant livebearer trap which alows water flow which allows him to sense the females feramones and the jar is strictly visual. Who Knows he could just be weird ;D

Curtis:
I have also found that dark (ice tea color) water helps to protect the female (or male in this case).
I make mine VERY dark when I have an aggressive male. You may have to breed that aggressive female to a non-sib older male...one that is more aggressive then she is...or at least let the male beat her up a bit and try with the sib male.

This is exactly what my friend from Kokaho Aquarium down in LA told me as well. He is the one who turned me on to the Bio Lif Indian Almond leaf productCarl

I had a really beautiful Plakat last year (before he "ran away") that I got from Petsmart. He was listed as a Dragonscale Betta, though I don't think he was actually a Dragonscale (but I've never seen one in person before, so I don't know), and I got him for $7-something on sale. He was a PALE blue-almost white--with a thin band of red running all the way around the center of his fins, from his dorsal, thru his tail and on through his ventral fin. After he died I began looking for a replacement, but I don't want just any color, I want to try to get another one with pale colors. I haven't seen ANY Plakats anywhere since. Then last week, Petsmart had one for about $10, but it was just your basic red-colored "Crown-tail Plakat" Betta. Petco had a couple, again normal-colored, but they were listed as "Half Moon Plakats" for $9+. They didn't have any, but their list with outlines/prices of the different ones had "Crowntail Dragon Plakats", also for $19, and plain old Plakats for nearly $13!

Wow. those plakats seem like they are hard to find. I hope you find one an actual one properly listed at Petsmart. In my experience (and from what I have heard from others), bettas from Petsmart is a mix of betta varieties and definitely not pure strains. I used to breed bettas (ones I got from Petsmart actually). I had a beautiful male that was white with green and red on his fins. I bred him to a female (I forgot her colors and name but I have it listed somewhere under tank blogs on the forum where I have fish family trees) and if memory serves, their offspring were white with green and red on their fins too. But one male was pink with red fins which looked awesome! Long-winded response aside, I hope you find the variety of betta you're looking for angelminx! Renee

Thanx, Renee. Luckily I'm not desperate. I can wait for now; just hope it isn't too long a wait.
