No can do Bill, they wouldn't sit still long enough to get a still on that. Tank is already at head level, as it's in the store too. I was trying to show the mouth area and how different it looks. I guess I'd say like a real shark? You know how it has like a nose area that protrudes out? And the mouth area is right under it. Where you look at other Mbuna types, and the mouth is like centered on their face, these have the mouths at a much lowered angle. Not sure if that's any significance.

I'd have to say no on that one Bill. The stripe patterns on these two were more like an elnongatus really. Stripes were verticle, not horizontal, and the nose is big and round like a shark, so that the mouth is more under the nose area, not centered on the face. They sort of look like a VERY dark Acei maybe or Jalo Reefs. They have the same body shape as the Manigano and most other Mbuna, it is torpedo shaped, just the face/mouth area is different.

Saw these at the LFS and one thing I noticed about these are while they look like Mbuna, I've never seen some that have such a large overbite look to them. It looks as if the nose area overhangs where the mouth area is. The LFS is under the impression these are uncommon or rare types, but I can't tell. Never seen these before. Focus on the dark blue looking ones. Jon, Those are probably fuelleborni. They are not uncommon or rare. They always remind me of the Simpsons with the overbite they have. This is typical of fish that feed on algae growing on the rocks they live in and around. I guess the overbite helps them scrape off the algae easier. ;D
There are a number of color variations and species that have the overbite. They are mouthbrooders like the other mbuna.
Here is an article from Cichlid-Forum on them:

That one sure knew that you were zeroing in on him, didn't he?

John, thank you, that's a great analogy, The Simpsons. Exactly, I just haven't seen any Mbuna that looked like that before. Yeah, they never seem to want to pose but they're also in a tank in a store I'm sure that's got to have something to do with it too LOL. Thank you.

Hey Jon, Wish I would have seen this thread when you started it, I could have helped, I keep a few varieties of these in my mbuna tank. They are really a good fish, not extreemly aggressive and do well in the mbuna community i have.
