I'm sorry your new fish died. Look, I try to be very polite myself and not give people a hard time when they're at work but when buying live animals you've got to be insistent about what you want. I don't care if the store is the size of the Superdome you're going in there to spend your money and so you should get a quality product.
I'm really picky because in Pensacola only Petsmart offers the 14 day guarantee. Everywhere else it's 24 hours and they make you jump through a bunch of hoops and answer a bunch of questions so you bet your a$$ I spend a lot of time picking out fish and make them catch the ones I want.
With the bigger stores you have to stand up for yourself because they get in the bad habit of acting like you don't matter because they have so many other customers.

I learned to always check my fish in the bag before I go. I never did until I bought 3 head and tail light tetras and discovered when I got home that I actually got 2 head and tail lights and something else completely different!! It took me a long time to figure out what I got. It was a Scissortail Rasbora. I named him Skippy and he actually ended up being one of my favorite fish. I really lucked out that time and now I'm always sure to check before I go.
It's a good thing too, because once when I checked, I found that one of the fish they were giving me was deformed. I kind of felt bad for him, but at the same time, I was paying 5 bucks for him, so they swapped him out for me.
