Mom & Dad with a few of their kids.
Carl, do you know if moving the parents can cause the male to attack the female, believing that she is responsible for the fry disappearing? I want to move the parents to a larger tank so they can spread out a little more. Never tried moving the parents with so many fry around them. Maybe I should move a few fry too? John

I likely know less than you in this area. I did however have a 150 gallon Lake Tanganyika tank that had a breeding pair of Daffodils that I maintained at a Pathologist's home. I actually worked with him as he was a"hands on" client, meaning I helped him, but was not in total control (he had several tanks as this guy had mucho $$) On one occasion that I can recall, we moved the pair AND the fry without any losses to a 40 gallon, but this is just one occasion that I remember (other times we left them in the tank).
This probably does not help much since one time is not too conclusive, but maybe it may will help based on your experiences as well.

Thanks, this camera is working great, and no, actually that was the pair of telmatochromis temporalis in the flower pot. Here is a short video of the male daffodil with a few fry, don't know if it will work or not, send me a PM and let me know so I can fix it if it needs fixing.

Excellent small clip John and I enjoyed watching that very much. Very elegant fish you have going there and the fry are already starting to take on the features of the adults really well!! I look forward to seeing this species of yours as they continue to grow out and how they look as juveniles and sub-adults. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the compliments. ;D Did I mention that the video was taken with my new digital still camera? The one I paid only $149 for? With the 2GB card in it, I can shoot almost an hour of video with sound. I will update as they grow.
I cannot believe the quality of images I get from this thing. Anyone considering a new camera should go and look at the Fuji Finepix S700 (this is the one I have) or the newer model (which I am considering getting for the wife for Christmas). I got mine at Circuit City (they just filed for bankruptcy though, so they may not be around to sell cameras much longer). It is a major brand, though, so all the big box electronics stores will have it.
The newest version of this camera (S2000) has many more mega pixels (10) and a bigger optical zoom (15x) for less than $280. It also will shoot continuous still shots at around 12 frames per second. If Pam isn't interested, I may just get it for myself.... .....and give her the old one. ;D

i agree with the camera thing john. i have the fine pix s5200 and it has been great. the optical zoom is huge and the quality is great. for an affordable camera it is loaded with options. i paid 300 for mine but i bought it the week this model was released. btw, great looking fish.

I too have a Fuji Fine Pix, although mine is a few years old and I purchased mine from BiMart (a Northwest Dept. store, where my wife works so I got a discount of cost plus 10%)
My Fuji is a E500.
I also recently bought a 2 GB memory card allowing for nice videos, in fact the video aspect of this camera is what I like. It does take good still shots as well, just not good low light still shots.
Back to the video; John/8 I enjoy ALL your photography/videos, have you thought of looping all your videos and interlacing some still shots to make a longer "production" using a program such as MS Movie Maker?
This would make for some nice video/slide show presentations ;D

I only paid $12 for mine. Pam (wife) told me I should buy a few of them and then I wouldn't have to carry the camcorder around with me when we go places.
I know what you mean about the low light still shots without the flash... Mine never look the way I want them to. What with the old age hands shaking and causing all sorts of fuzziness.
I do have a program called Smart Disk MVP that will do all that editing, it is just a matter of finding the time to sit down and put it all together. Then there would be the huge upload time it would take to get a long presentation to where I could show everyone who would actually be interested in it. My wife is not a big fish fan, so you guys would be the only ones that would actually care to see it.... unless... maybe my fish club members would like it too.

John Yes memory cards as well as Flash Drives have come down in price considerably, but I am am sure you remember TVs costing $400 for basic portable in the 1970s and that was in 1970s dollars! You can get a much better LED flat screen for less than that in 2008 dollars; too bad cars did not go the way of electronics As to low light still shots without the flash, I just cannot hold the camera still long enough for the aperture to take these shots to be as clear as I would like them either. Oh yeah, cars..... don't get me started on cars and the unions that have forced prices through the roof because of $30 an hour bolt tighteners.
You might want to get yourself a monopod (as opposed to a tripod) to hold the camera steadier. It works, but I never have it with me when I need it....
