I think one thing though, as far as the Dat goes, FINALLY I have nailed this down. It's not a Microlepis, but rather WAS AT = Datnioides polota, formerly D. quadrifasciatus, aka "silver datnoid" or an American Tiger. Like Brenda had mentioned before, scanning the tail, plus looking at the sub stripes it had, no question in my mind, this was a silver/American Tiger.
I've got so many leads now actually, between Bill, a local seller but they only have the NGT's and Undecimeradius. Absolutely Fish in Clifton will order one, cheapest price of everyone too, between 25-30, but who knows when they'll actually get in, and tonight I got a late mail from a Flowerhorn/Arowana seller in NYC, who's a Malaysian guy I know, can get either a Microlepis or Silver for like 55.00. Now I'm going to have to do some thinking.

Best I could do of the Hunters. First are while they are in the bags. Lately though, I can't seem to find the female?? I have a bad bad feeling, she got eaten by that damn Jardini or beaten to death by someone. Believe me, I am going to be making some changes in what's in this tank in the comming weeks, now that I know I have a good outlet from Vinny. Vinny has a lot of local store contacts and sellers, so even if I sell to him wholesale, I'm still getting money and he can make money. To me, it's a win/win simply because I get little to no action on my auctions. I've now got a good looking lead at a few female adult Venustus, so I expect to be spawning this species again by the Spring, and for the other cichlid keepers in here, if you are on the hunt for fish, nycichlid.com, Vinny tipped me to that site. While local to me, there are a TON of cichlid keepers much like CF itself. It has a ton of potential for me to score some species. Anything that I don't find being offered, I know where to find Dave also. Getting that happy happy joy joy feeling here. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=013009_1429a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=013009_1430a.flvYou can see that small body spot on the injured one I moved to the 100. It's getting better now. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=013109_1119a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=013109_1120a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=013109_1120b.flvLittle bit of a glare on the tank, but here's the male in the 180. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=013109_1121a.flvAgain, I still cannot locate the female. I just have a bad feeling here.

Substrate decor empty, going to refill and reput the decor, no sign of that female anywhere. She got deep six'd apparently.

I now have a nice little brood of Albino Taiwan Reefs in my 15. I am guessing around 50 or so. Pics might be a bit hard to get at this point. Mom still aggressive towards me if I go near the tank. Very good parental instincts from this Hap.

wow...Jon that's a pretty good sized brood!!! With these guys being albino do they look a lot different as little fry?

Well the avatar Carl made for me, that's the same mom. These guys are pretty shiney white for the most part. Really small too. Makes you forget just how small these guys get when spit if it's been a few weeks. She's pretty aggressive in watching over them too. I put my hand to the tank, she rushes up to bite it.

Ok here's the same female on my Avatar again with a new set of babies. What's interesting to note to all here, she's actually spawned 2 other times before this, but in the process of isolating her, she either just spit out the whole brood or consumed them the last 2 times. I was almost ready to give up on her. I watched her spawn with the male, even helped the male going on 3 weeks ago, come this Saturday. Here's some small shots of them spawning. I held the net to ward off all those interfering with the process. So almost 3 weeks ago, we start with this: s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=011909_1156a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=011909_1156b.flvI waited over 2 weeks before I took her out, just to make sure, the eggs would at least be hatched in case she dumped them. Monday morning, she'd let them loose. Since I saw the actual spawn, this is a brood spit after 16 days. Here they are with mom. Mom still extremely defensive just as last time. First shot, I tried to get the phone up close, and she went nuts: s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=020509_2200a.flvI had to be a bit sneaky to get these. Too numerous again to count, but I'd have to say, this is at least in the 50 plus range of fry. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=020509_2201a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=020509_2202a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=020509_2202b.flvThis female is a fish I spawned myself, spit out in Dec 07, one of the few first Africans I actually spawned, just after my Yellow Labs. Now a momma of her own, for the second time.

Congrats Jon on your second generation spawn part two!
BTW, in video #3 (the close up), did she gesture at you with her pectoral fin? ;D

I love how she gets up in your face in that one video. She's like "Hey buddy, what do you think you're doing?! I will totally kick your butt if you come near my babies!" It's like you're the paparazzi and she's the hounded celebrity trying to take her kids to the park.

Thanks Kag, yeah what is surprising is how fast she forgets who I am. She's been with me since I spawned her back in Dec 07, this is her fourth spawn, second one that made it, and she still thinks I'm trying to do something. Natural instincts showing very well in this fish. Actually I'd worry more if she didn't act like this. I've had my hands bit and nipped by my substrate spawners if I got too close to the nest site to move some decor around. Carl, you better have a look at this. It's one of those Tilapia Bythobates in the 180. This don't look good. Sure as hell looks like some sort of fungus in there. I haven't added anything new in there other then that Hunter a couple weeks ago. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=020609_1036a.flvBut on this side, it's like a milky line. I don't know what to make of this. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=020609_1037a.flv

Jon, that definitely looks to be injury induced, so I would consider moving this guy, or simply isolating this fish in an isolation net, box inside the tank.
I would also both perform a medicated bath with Methylene Blue, salt, and Furan 2. As well some MB applied directly to the area in question with a dropper or cotton swap would be in order.
Consider Pimafix in the tank, but otherwise I would not use any in tank meds at this point (you can up the salt a 50% though).

More Flavus s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_1542a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_1550a.flvThen I mentioned before that the Pytchochromis Oligocanthus have spawned again. This occured just after my internet router crashed on my Friday night, not sure the exact time, but I woke up Saturday morning to find the eggs on the shell, so some time between Friday late night/Early Saturday morning, she put the eggs down and almost every one fertilized too. This is a picture of the pit area, and eggs. I took an updated clip this morning, as they are now all hatched and they have moved them to a seperate site in the substrate now. All wigglers. So first I was telling John last night, just how big this pit is. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_2230a.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_2231b.flvThe egg shots when first found laid Saturday morning. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_1046b.flvs200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_1047a.flvThen I also found it due that I needed the 15 gallon tank to isolate the holding yellow lab, so I put my one month old Protomelas Steveni spawn up to the 100. Big mistake. Those Polleni, and even the Fulu thought I just fed them. I moved 52 up, I find 0 this morning. Hate to say it, but they are all eaten. Oh well, another spawn is comming next week, but that bites. Here's some of those Fat Polleni John. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_2231b.flvI'll get some shots of the Fulu progress. Man, he's putting up some serious red on his body, but to close this up for now, here's the wigglers from this morning, all hatched now. Clearly, second time, incubation period for Pytchochromis Oligocanthus is about 60 hours, give or take a few from fertilization. I am estimating about 200 plus fry off this. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030209_0840a.flvOne last note, that fish I was telling Eve about, a Flavus sub adult that would light up bars like a male, and had three egg spots, it does turn out that pocket in the mouth, was fry. I netted her up and put her in the 20, and got 10 fry out of her. They look a little smaller then I remember, but it's been 9 months since I spawned this species too. At this time, I do not know if this is related to her spawning with her father or not. It could just be I haven't seen Flavus fry in so long, I forgot how they look, but I did get 10 from that suspected male that is really a female. Got an updated Fulu shot. Man that male is really showing off sometimes. s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa25/knottypeater/?action=view¤t=030109_2232b.flv

Well the 180 is pretty good for the most part Carl, I did the water change and your clearing stuff yesterday. The 100 with the Madagascars though, that had last water change on Wed last week, and since there are no more cory's or the hop lo or the botia, build up of stuff on the bottom is harder to keep up with. But there is a big pile of those wigglers, and just trying to guess, I think it's in the 200 count range.
I can't believe those Polleni too, ate all 52 of those fry those bastards. They were like an Oscar after feeders. Wasn't much I could do though, I needed that tank, the 15 for the yellow lab. I wish I could get one more medium tank for growing out, since I got Madagascars, I can't really do that anymore with that 100. MTS hits again.
Let's just pray those wigglers get free swimming asap so I can move them when I have to take the tank down.
