Probably like Friday. These guys are only like 1 inchers right now. To me, it didn't make sense to pay the higher dollar value on the more adult sized ones when I can just grow them out much cheaper. At that size, since is saves shipping from 50.00 overnight to 15.00 on 2 day, might as well go 2 day on that. This time of the year, no danger of freezing in transit.

freezing isnt always the biggest problem. oxygenation in the bag is much more grief. I am sure they will be fine tho. being small they won`t pull out as much of the oxygen as larger ones would.
to keep my tank properly oxygenated i have 2 air pumps with air bars and a small powerhead for surface movement. my snook is incredibly oxygen dependant. read a few horror stories of power failures and snooks dying within 2 hours. think i should by a back up battery powered air pump or powerhead. hmmmmm....wonder if carl sells those

That's a good point too bike. Unfortunatly I deleted my inbox over in CF ha ha. I know this guy puts an additive for O2 and something for stress in the bags, and doesn't go more then four fish to a large bag, so I'd feel ok with him. He's only asking like 2.00 each for the 1 inch fry too, compared to buying full grown adults for like 25.00-30.00. Not like 180 gallons isn't much space lol.
The pump on the airstone has a second outlet. I might add another line, but a large number of my Malawi are going to end up in the 100 gallon tank anyways at least, all the Mbuna are going to go. These Polleni's are reported as substrate spawners so I don't want anyone wandering around in that area, though at 1 inch size, I don't see them spawning anytime soon.

if you can figure out how i can send livestock to you over the border, i will be able to find a couple madagascar species here for you. they actually show up here often. one of my local petstores here often put on 2 or 3" juvis on sale for like $5.00. kinda a sale to get ya in the door to at least walk around and maybe spend a lil more money. go to their site and look at weekly specials. it is www.piscespets.com

btw.....i have the lil pills here to oxygenate as well. keep it in my fish first aid kit. they work very well in a pinch. i have used them to oxygenate a few years back when my pump went. lasted great while i ran off to buy a new one.

Boy, you gotta lot of pictures to choose from and i do not even know where to start for the pictures page!! ;D As to shipping, temperature is a consideration, but as bikeguy stated oxygen AND CO2 are even bigger concerns IMO. This is why when I move fish I try not to seal the container, however this does not work for actual shipments. A major problem I have dealt with )in International shipping especially) is CO2 buildup as this will lower pH considerably, then when one opens the bags it is VERY important to trickle water very slowly (over a few hours) so as to not cause pH shock. Keep in mind that a shipping bag that has dropped to 6.0 and then has fish added to 7.5 water is a FIFTEEN times jump in pH!! I will use Methylene Blue in the water to counter the effects of both lack of oxygen and ammonia poisoning (does not help for pH) and then a bWonder Shell fragment for KH, GH, and pH stability. This has worked very well for me as has slow acclimation of fish that are now in low pH water. I deal with acclimation of new fish in this article: Aquarium Disease Prevention; Acclimation Section 7As to the AC/DC air pump, here is one I sell: Azoo Non Stop Air PumpThis is good for moving fish or blackouts, not so for shipping via mail, Fedex, UPS. Carl
I think I remember you telling me about this like a long time ago too actually. That Yellow Tailed Asian Arowana, made it from Malaysia to here, like a week in transit. I figure that fish HAD to have made a stop here in the USA and got changed out to a new bag of water. Five mentioned that instead of Meth Blue, there was a different product out there he felt was better for shipping. Something called Tranquil? I haven't heard of this product before.

I figure that fish HAD to have made a stop here in the USA and got changed out to a new bag of water. Five mentioned that instead of Meth Blue, there was a different product out there he felt was better for shipping. Something called Tranquil? I haven't heard of this product before. There are several products made for shipping. Tranquil is a good product, but it ONLY deals with the sedation issue (which is important for large fish, or easily stressed fish), however it does not deal with other issues of shipping, so honestly comparing MB to Tranquil is an apples to oranges comparison. In my experience use of Tranquil or similar products ALONG with MB and mineral bloks would yield the best results and even more bluntly if I was to choose betweena stress reducer such as Tranquil and the MB/WS method I would pick the later as it deals with the major causes of shipping death (which is not stress induced shock, rather shock for dramatic pH changes, loss of slime coat, low oxygen and ammonia poisoning) Another product for shipping is this one by Kordon (I do not sell it, but have used it): Kordon Fish ProtectorHere is iformation about Tranquil as well: TranquilCarl

Carl,
That's great information and I think your point about combining all things for shipping is ideal. Speaking of which I'll have to be getting another order out to you probably next week. I never can seem to keep enough shells or Prime on hand lol. Too bad you don't have like a higher/bulk rate thingy. Maybe you do and I overlooked it.

Got my order of Paratilapia Polleni in. They are all white right now so I'm assuming they stay white until reaching juvenile or sexual maturity and then show the black and white look.
Five days in transit because it went out regular mail and the shipper left off the extension to the apt. All are alive though!!

Not yet Brenda, I'm still watching to make sure no delayed shock going on. So far they appear to have adapted pretty well. I'll work on that tomorrow.

Will be working on this in a little while Brenda. Water is a little cloudy as I may have added too much BBS. I understand from my seller, these fish tend to eat more live food types, so I wanted to make sure they got something. Been close a week they didn't eat anything. So far from all I've seen, they adapt very well to the group. I'm not sure if it's due to everyone else being around their size or not. One is starting to show more black then the others as well and not sure if that's indicating a male or not. This is one of the more rare, not so much tank raised species, so not a whole lot is known about these fish too.
